That's because there is no Halo 3. There is however "Forerunner", which is the development name for the next game in the universe/storyline Halo was part of. So they might change it to Halo 3, or some totally different name, or keep it as Forerunner...who knows, they can call it whatever they like.

But anyway, I wouldn't put much stock in this "An insider source from Microsoft" stuff. Until they release an official date, I wouldn't count on the game being released at a specific day/month/year. Bungie will work on it until they think it's done. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't get an official date until around the time the PS3 is released, but depending on how close it is to complete they might announce something at E3.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Meh, who the fuck am I kidding. No one will give a shit about what i say cause they will still buy that mediocre first person shooter game...
I think you just described every major FPS game released in the last 10 years...

Which game start this "trend"? Half-life?
That would be a good starting point, it certainly seemed to be a poster child for the "weak-ass story" that's now synonymous with FPS games. The "aliens coming through portals from another dimension" plot was original when it was called Doom.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Name one. If you said "first person action game", then you might have a bit better case with games like Breakdown thrown in there. But as far as first person shooters go, I honestly can't think of any released recently (or ever, really) that had a good storyline. At best, they have a convincing or interesting setting, but pretty much none of them have memorable characters or a story that expands much beyond "aliens are plotting to destroy earth, are you a bad enough dude to stop them?"

I'd love to play an FPS that actually put an emphasis on the story, but I have yet to see one.

Not a bad choice, I think that's close enough. OK, so there is an FPS out there that has a half-way decent story, amazing.

In fact, it's the stuff it doesn't contain that gives it a strange kind of context. You can see how detailed the Chief is, but that detail applies to our other, unseen, unrevealed characters, vehicles, environment and so on. There's no AI visible in the demo, no multiplayer, and the entire thing has been left deliberately subdued both to give scale to the artifact and because this is our announcement. The real stuff will come later.

Halo became known for its campaign, especially cooperative campaign, as online multiplayer was not even a part of the original game. People went into Halo 2 for the campaign and also received, for the first time, an online multiplayer experience.

What you were attempting to say was that Halo became known for its LAN multiplayer, which it later did. The original had no online component.

Not really true. The person you responded to simply said "multiplayer". This includes splitscreen, LAN, AND online. Even without the online component, the game still received huge praise for it's multiplayer gameplay, and much of the talk about the game was about it's multiplayer (same with Goldeneye back in the day). For many, many people, their only experience with Halo was through playing multiplayer at a friend's house.

In addition, the original Halo was online, in multiple ways in fact. The PC version (released a year before Halo 2) had full online multiplayer. The Xbox version could also be played online through Xbox Connect/Xlink Kai/Gamespy, a method which was strikingly popular (hell, it was pretty much the only game people played through those services). More than a few people owned the Xbox version of Halo and got the PC version only so they could play it online.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
