Do you subtitles can really capture the meaning of the dialogue in some anime?

I don't really. While I do think that subtitles do an effective job in translating meanings in most anime, I sometimes wish I understood Japanese just so I could fully grasp the connotations of the words spoken in anime. It's frustrating when you're sure there's something deeper behind their dialogue and the subtitles only display and reveal a direct translation. :aargh:

Jam it back in, in the dark.
