Yes, spending a year abroad sounds just like the thing, could you arrange such a thing through college, Fjordor? Being confronted with a different culture and language might seem like a jump into cold water at 1st but you could gain a lot from it (especially when you come from a country which has such a vast influence on the whole globe but seems a little preoccupied with its own affairs from time to time - no offense).
