Watching the right movie with the wrong people...
I'm not one hundred percent sure wether this belongs here, but I guess it's not suited for the Quite Place even though I'm pretty pissed off on a personal level.
Well, here's what happened today: I was watching Spider-Man 2 with two friends from college. With one of them I had recently seen the 1st one and while she'd been sceptical beforehand (not really a comic book person), she enjoyed it quite a lot and of course wanted to see the sequel. So far so good, we got a convert here, ladies and gentlemen. Now this time, the other person - her boyfriend - happened to be around as well and I already knew he had some sort of problem with superhero movies. But couldn't he have kept his mouth shut? Having some loyal Star Wars fanboy vocally question the logic of technical details of a comic book movie is absurd enough, not to mention irritating but the remarks or pseudo-moved sounds during the more emotional scenes really took the cake. Granted, some movies or genres are really not for everyone but I really loathe it when people fail to treat the enjoyment others might get out of certain works respectfully, wether they can relate to it or not. Well, so much for my rant, guess I feel a bit better now. Feel free to add similar experiences or flame my whiney, men-in-tights-worshipping ass. ![]() Jam it back in, in the dark. |
I just remembered leaving the movies recently, still contemplating the characters and certain moments and stuff, while some people - the aforementioned guy among them - were actually discussing the quality of the hair animation on King Kong. Wow, Peter Jackson, Andy Serkis and Naomi Watts deliver one of the most gripping takes on the beauty and the beast theme in recent history and the first thing on their mind is how much better ILM would have done than Weta.
Maybe I'm a little intolerant myself, but to me this is really one of those machismo things, you know, where the emotinal appeal of otherwise action themed movies has to be shrugged off in order to mantain a certain image or self esteem. @ Soluzar Yep, it was my place and I should have said something. I most likely will, if it happens again and I'll probably even chose some movies for forthcoming evenings he'll never treat with due respect. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
