Metal Slug, NOW IN TASTY 3D FLAVOUR
So I heard they released Metal Slug 3D yesterday.
![]() So here's the box art. Took me four pages of searching to find it, and then BAM one appears the size of multiple plants. But it's nothing too great, I suppose. I never really did like the Metal Slug box art -- the others were somewhat appropriate (well, most of them, there's a few which I just don't like to look at, namely the NGPC one), but the difference is this one is covered in angry chibi soldiers. Must be selling HEAPS in japan! So, you don't like the box art? I'm shocked. Flabbergasted even. But oh no, no, it doesn't stop there, we still have the process of opening the game, ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() "what" Okay, I wasn't convinced by the screenshots that the game was good whatsoever. More like, it looked like a PS1 3D project weeping of cancer. So I thought "hey, don't worry. I'll just check youtube for videos." and proceeded to do so. And in doing so; I stumbled across 4 results. They were: Metal Slug 3D Trailer, Metal Slug 3D Trailer, Metal Slug 3D Trailer in spanish, and Metal Slug 3D Trailer. I decided to click on "Metal Slug 3D Trailer" just to be funny. Needless to say, the screenshots are about as bad as the game in action. The game feels exactly like "ONE", an old PS1 title. You basically shoot a bunch of things, run away, collect some power ups, shoot a bit more, hide, shoot some more, et cetera. So this is uh, where you discuss Metal Slug and stuff. I can't honestly say Metal Slug 3D looks good. In comparison to the 2D ones, that is. Yet another example of a series which looks better in 2D. I'm pretty sure if Playmore weren't around (and I'm pretty sure if they hadn't of revived SNK) this game wouldn't of even been considered. On a positive note though, Metal Slug 6 is coming out on July the 27th. From what I've seen it's looking quite purchase worthy, but I just hope they don't go all MS3 on it's ass and have the later levels lasting for hours, like 3 had with it's level 5. Seriously, they could have broken 3's last stage up into like, three different levels. The first would be the encounter with the abduction, the second would be transferring through space and fighting the core, and the third would be escaping. But no, let's just whore quarters. Oh well! If you skimmed past all of that: Don't buy Metal Slug 3D. Unless of course you love 3D shooters which don't look half as good as titles of the same series released over 10 years ago. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Metal Slug's story is actually extremely developed. For simple arcade shooters, there's an absurd amount of detail regarding the story at wikipedia, and the Metal Slug Database. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
