Congratulations on buying a way overpriced HDTV regardless.

Buying a new tv for PS2/xbox/GC games is a waste of time, mostly because the highest possibly quality you can get out of them is from either a PS2 SCART cable, or an upscan convertor.

The only console to ever properly upscan it's quality was the Dreamcast. You can buy a VGA adaptor for Dreamcast and all the games will look like HDTV quality on your monitor. Buying a VGA adaptor for PS2, Gamecube or xbox is otherwise pointless because it won't upscan properly. The best possible quality out of a PS2/GC/XBX title would be from a monitor fed through an upscan convertor. Like this one.

If you have a 360, it's just a matter of using component cables or SCART on your new tv. However for other consoles in this current generation, for example PS2: Most games are 15KHz, and if you try using a typical VGA adaptor with them you end up with some disaster like this:

Ibara for PS2 on a monitor via a VGA adaptor without upscan.

What you need to do, is something sensible! This is an easy process: Return tv to store, use 1/10th the price to buy an upscan covertor, and enjoy your HDTV-like games.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

You could just say "damn near impossible" now that Nintendo have decided to discontinue their distribution of component cables and both lik-sang and play-asia have them as temporarily unavailable. Hell, even browsing through google I see forums where people are asking where to buy them from.

S-video cables for Gamecube are still quite common, and are available. They're better than the standard AV cables so they're still a worthwhile last resort. I wouldn't hold out much hope for component cables as they seem pretty scarce, but there's always eBay.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I don't know if Nintendo decided to discontinue them after them going into backorder, but I wasn't aware that Nintendo online distributed them until today. I knew of the third party component cables from play-asia, but that's all.

Here's something I don't understand. What the hell is the point of Progressive Scan without component cables? Is that even possible? Nintendo's customer support website which I mentioned previously said that they're no longer stocking and providing customers with component cables, yet they're still supporting Progressive Scan.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
