Hahaha, no pun intended right Kilroy?

10 bucks says that they'll follow the same traits as the PS2 and quickly drop their price over the period of the next year.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

If you truly meant this to be serious bet, you'd lose this time around. This machine is going for another demographic entirely, while throwing bits and pieces at the one that put the Playstation where it is today. A massive price drop (say, $100 for 20GB and 60GB) would probably improve sales, but increase losses per console.
If they don't quickly move their launch price in PAL territories, Sony will fail. Hype really isn't all that strong.

I'm sorry but I already have a Dreamcast.

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

On the news tonight, they had a short article about the PS3 in NZ, claiming 4 million dollars (NZ) worth of preorders are already placed.

I smell bullshit everywhere. No fucking way can a country of 4.5 million people preorder an estimated 3636 PS3's here. Unless sheep suddenly start buying consoles.

Sales of the long-awaited Sony PlayStation 3 gaming console began with a bit of a yawn at its midnight launch, but retailers predict they will sell out before the weekend is over.

The top of the line toy does not come cheap and is the most expensive gaming console, retailing at $1200.

However, there were some dedicated buyers lined up outside stores last night to get their hands on the much-hyped console.

Dick Smith merchandise manager James Cunnold said two stores open at midnight - in Manukau and Hamilton - had about 40 people at each lined up to take away the hi-tech console.

And he said their pre-sales had gone better than any other gaming launch.

"We're likely to sell out by the end of today," he said.

A spokesman for specialist computer gaming store, The Gamesman, Peter Dalley said he did not have exact figures, but consoles "in their hundreds" left the seven company stores that opened last night, and he expected many more to go over the weekend.

A spokesperson from retailer Harvey Norman, which also had stores open last night was unavailable for comment, but staff from stores in Wellington and Manukau reported a quieter launch.

The Wellington store sold about 10 of the consoles overnight, and the Manukau store about 12.

A slow start to sales was mirrored across the Tasman, with just 65 fans queuing outside Sydney's Myers Department Store, disappointing organisers who had predicted thousands for the glizty launch.

Nevertheless, advertising sales executive Danny Zarka, 31, said the midnight wait had been worth it.

"I was really thrilled to be the first one to get my hands on this baby before anyone else," he told AFP as he clutched his spanking new PS3 console.

"It's going to be a sleepless night, but I haven't scheduled any meetings for early tomorrow," he added before heading home.

The launch of the PS3 in Japan and the United States back in November was accompanied by a consumer frenzy that resulted in punch-ups and at least one shooting.

Sony and major retailers had talked up the long-delayed launch in Australasia and Europe, but there has been speculation that the PS3's hefty price tag might deter consumers.

In London diehard gamers had camped for 36 hours to be first in line for the release.

In France, a special boat was due to ferry 1000 PS3s along the Seine to the foot of the Eiffel Tower, where enthusiasts will brave the chilly Parisian night to get their hands on a console.
I used to know an old girl friend ("girl" "friend") who worked at Harvey Norman Manukau. ...yeah, she won't be buying a PS3 either.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Ahahaha "WE WON'T PLAY A GAME THAT ISN'T SPECIFIC TO SONY PRODUCTS."

How fucking lame, man. It's not like they even have to MAKE the game in the first place.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

I don't understand why people like console Oblivion. It's so much better for PC. The only thing I could see being the reason is that they have a shitty computer or just suck in general. Oblivion for PS3, big whoop. =/
Oh that's easy for you to say when you have a batshit insane computer.

The 360 version has slowdown too, but for the price of a PS3, $600US could probably upgrade any current computer into oblivion. (hi pun)

oh jesus!! isn't 1920x1200 a bit overkill on a computer monitor?!?!?!?!?! I run 1440x900 which is close to 720p. I did not mean 1080p!!!!!
1280x720 is 720p. You're doing it wrong. Additionally, though, 1080p on a monitor is 1920x1080, so Acer could probably run it in 1080i. Although, I wouldn't imagine something like a 15-21" monitor running 1080p Oblivion to be superior to, say, a 28-40" HDTV on 1080i. (See what I did there? A high end computer and high quality monitor would be roughly around the same price as a relatively large HDTV with 1080i.)

I haven't really dealt with 1080p, so I can't comment on if it's significantly better. From what I've heard of it, it's extremely bandwidth consuming.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

Hmmm... that does suck. I'm not trying to justify anything however if I told you about all the RPG corruptions that used to happen to me in the PS1 days, well let's just say I saved on 2 memory cards each time I saved RPG progress. That in hand with all my X-box 360 corruptions and PS2 memory cards corrupting on my PS2 hardware. Point is that shit happens, and while it does suck big time, you can't really say that a whole console sucks due to one isolated accident. Once again in light of your situation I'd be pretty pissed too rational or not for I've played & beaten Nocturne myself.
I think I heard Miles complaining about the PS3 and saving issues with RPG games. It doesn't sound anything like an isolated incident, unless Iwata and Miles both have PS3s from the same batch, it may be a console issue.

Oh and people shouldn't HAVE to back things up, saving and loading is taken for granted these days.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Does the new PS3's upscaling doohickey upscale to 1080i, or just 720p and 1080p?

My display doesn't do 1080p ;_; but games (assuming they'r nextgen) look really beautiful at 1080i so I don't think I'm missing much.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

The game is made by Koei. So unless it's another Gitaroo-Man game, anything else by them is garbage.
Damn you Atlus, why did you make Rule of Rose? It sucks.

Oh, wait, they didn't. And Koei didn't make Gitaroo Man, nor half the games they've released in Europe. They're a developer/publisher hybrid, like Atlus USA. I can't recall anything that they've developed apart from Dynasty Warriors (which I quite like, although it's repetitive as all hell) but, hey, at least they're keeping the hack 'n slash genre alive.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

If you think it's not a good game because of something as minor as that, you have problems. It's the best beat-'em-up of this decade.
Sorry that would be God Hand.

beat 'em up and hack 'n slash are different -_-

So what was the reason behind them making beautiful, exclusive press kits which 99% of gamers won't end up seeing, again?

I was speaking idiomatically.

What, being nice to people is looked down upon these days? :|
That isn't what I meant. Here, I'll rephrase:

I'm all for guys impressing their reviewers with games and bonus content. But still, doing that only masks the game itself with glorified extras. They can't really comment about the additional content added since the target audience won't be receiving it. It seems like a waste.

I'd buy games even if they're shitty, if press kits were publicly available. Not many games come with bonus material at all these days. Art books, fancy cardboard casing, post cards (hey ICO), bonus soundtracks, etc. All good. What do you have to lose?

Nothing screams "Buy me! Buy me!" more than a game with bonus stuff sitting next to the rest of the sheep on the shelf. Make better sense?

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?
