Wow, those Ratchet and Clank screens are crazy. Is it actual game footage or a tech demo style thing?

That's some good news SOLDIER. I wonder what companies will have playable PS3 stuff?

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Their attempt at recovering from selling the system at less than what it costs them to produce it.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

So, if you get the cheaper model you have to store your game saves on the HDD?

I was speaking idiomatically.

Graphics sell regardless if you agree with the philosophy. It's also one time purchase which is expected to last at least 4-5 years. In the end people will be more than willing to spend the extra money if it is able to offer a gaming experience above the competition comparable to the PS2 vs the Gamecube and XBox.

80% of PS2 owners sit in the 23-35 age group. This group has an insane amount of disposable income. These are the same people that are willing to pay $300 for a slick looking MP3 player. How can you say the best looking game console with the most features and the (I'll say potentially at this point just to save some argument ) most diverse software lineup can't sell for a few hundred dollars more than its competition? If anything I would be more concerned about the competition being able to convince people that it is not worth the purchase. The Playstation produce name is immense, I think far larger that most people seem to think on this board. Do I even need to mention Microsoft can't even keep up with demand for their $500 product? There is simply no reason a $500-$600 PS3 won't sell.

Also about price drops. Don't expect one before launch, but there will be plenty down the road. The manufacturing cost of Blu-Ray drives alone is expected to be cut in half every six months from now.

I really don't understand everybody being so completely blown away by the price. We've all known about the specs for ages. The videocard alone would sell for the same price as the console if it were to be released as a PC card.

I also agree with Cetra. He's more or less saying things that I've said before. There are plenty of people 20+ that have the cash to buy one of these. The system will sell. It's got the graphics. It's got the games. It's got the brand name. MGS4, Grand Turismo and Final Fantasy alone more or less guarantee the system's success.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

QFT.

The same shit is likely to happen this generation as well. The Wii looks fun and all, but most of the game developers that I like are sticking with releasing their major franchises on the PS3.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

CryHavoc - that is the real Euro price. For some reason Sony decided to just switch the $ sign to a Euro sign for the lucky Europeans.

Was the PS2 priced with a simple replacement of a $ with a Euro or Pound sign?

The answer not only explains how it'll work, but announces a new peripheral.

Sony, and likely third-party manufacturers as well, will release a memory card adaptor that allows you to connect your PSone/PS2 Memory Cards to your PlayStation 3, supposedly via USB or a Memory Stick slot. PSone/PS2 data will need to be copied onto the PS3's hard drive and onto a "virtual memory card". Data can then be copied back to a solid Memory Card for use on a standard PSone/PS2.

So no, you won't need to start your RPGs all over again on the PS3.

As of press time, IGN could not reach Sony for more information, details or even an official name for this peripheral.
As we all expected, a memory card adapter is going to be made available for the PS3. Yay.

How ya doing, buddy?

Really Inhert? That kind of ruins my plans. I was going to pass by the EB Games in Montreal tomorrow to pre-order a system so that I could re-sell it on eBay. I might end up waiting in line to buy one the day of release at the local Walmart or something - I really want to re-sell one or two on eBay.

Come to Montreal on the 16th and you can camp out at the local Best Buy with my friend and I as we wait for the PS3. Then watch us sell them on eBay for mad profit. Cha Ching.

So I call back twice and nobody is picking up the phone. They must be tired of "Are you accepting pre-orders for PS3s?"

"So they told me to call back in an hour regarding..."
"WE AREN'T TAKING PRE-ORDERS. THAT'S ONLY FOR THE STATES."
"Uhh... ok."

They must be getting a bajillion calls. They've never been rude to me like that before.

The only reason why I want one on launch day is to sell it on eBay and make easy money.

Calm down there boy. This is a video game console, not a transplant organ. Oh, and, you already stole somebody's spot in line.

I'm not price gouging though. People are voluntarily coughing up that amount of money for the system. I'm simply making it available to the highest bidder.

Quote:
Waiting in line for this kind of stuff drives me up a wall. I'm sure not everyone will agree with me on this, but it is so damn childish and juvenile.
I agree to an extent. If your purpose is to make money off of it by auctioning it off, then I don't think that it's childish. Camping out because "OMG I'VE GOT TO HAVE A PS3 LAUNCH DAY!!!!" is ridiculous though. Were I not wanting to make some quick cash, I'd be waiting probably at least a year before I bought one.
