If I know that a particular group of people is unlikely to let it slip, I won't swear. Otherwise it's just habit for me. I get worse when I'm nervous or angry, but apart from that, swearing fits into my everyday vocabulary more frequently than I would like it to.
Jam it back in, in the dark.
