I used to have a farm cat called Shelley; she went missing quite a bit but she always came back. I suppose she wasn't very domesticated but she was smart enough to know where her food is.
Our tabby cat Munchie went missing for a few days a month back but she did come back. She must've gotten herself into a fight because her tooth was coming out and she couldn't eat properly  Jam it back in, in the dark.
