In all my years I've never been trick or treating; my parents had a variety of excuses ranging from "it's not safe" to "we don't want you to go out bothering people", but I think mostly it was because they would have to go too. However, I usually dress up in the evening whether I'm going to a party or not, just for the lucky kids who got to trick or treat.
I think my best costume is the one I revived tonight, Vyv from the Young Ones, but the most accurate was Death from the Sandman comic. I couldn't do that this year though because a friend of mine's mother died last week and I thought it was slightly inappropriate.
We never really had much time at home for Halloween festivites when I was a kid but we always managed at least one round of bobbing for apples. One year my mother made up all kinds of horrific looking food (eyeballs and intestines spring to mind) and we had a proper spooky meal, but it was just a family thing.
