Hey, neat. Let's see...(*asterisks indicate Christmas presents)
EDIT: Not sure what sage has to do with anything, but I'm guessing it's not good. I'm willing to expand my post a bit. Atari 2600 (1986): ET, Asteroids, Missile Command - As I mentioned elsewhere, my Mom got this post-crash for a song, and I loved it to death, even ET. Then one of my brothers-in-law threw out the deck and all my games when he was mad at my sister. I miss ET. *NES (1988): Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt pack-in - Standard story. Grandparents, hypnotism, blah blah blah...what's cool about Mario is that my parents played it almost as much as I did (my mom was better at it, if you're curious). Commodore 64 (1988): Defender of the Crown, Times of Lore - Forgot this the first time 'round, it was unfortunately donated to a local kids center in the early 90s against my will, and judging from their reaction, against theirs as well. They got rid of it shortly thereafter and I still haven't sufficiently gotten over it. Times of Lore was a full cup of wow back then. *GameBoy (1990): Tetris pack-in, Super Mario Land, Qix, Alleyway - The story on this one goes that both my parents and grandparents picked this up during the same sale, and debated awhile over who was going to return theirs. Eventually my parents won, and my grandparents picked up the latter three games instead. *SNES (1992): Super Mario World pack-in - Only worth noting that Mario was the only SNES game we owned for almost a year. Back then, things were mighty tough. Master System (N/A): Ghostbusters, Fantasy Zone: The Maze - Never actually owned one; got an adaptor when I found a Genesis. The games came from a yard sale. Genesis (1996): 6-in-1 Classic Pack pack-in - Scoff if you will at the lateness, but finally having both a Genesis and SNES was a big deal for me. Sega CD (1998): Snatcher - Paid $100 to a co-worker for the deck, the game, and some crappy old Genesis sports titles. My sister worked on it together like mad for 4 days, but while we were stuck in the hospital vent, we got news my grandfather had died, so we disconnected it for awhile, as we didn't feel much like playing anymore. What sucked was when we decided to finish it, and realized we had lost the necessary cords...I finally beat the game, alone, running on Gens on the PC. Sigh. Saturn (1998): Virtua Cop/Virtua Fighter 2/Daytona USA pack-in, Panzer Dragoon Saga - Got the whole bunch from a disgusted classmate for $20 even. True story. PlayStation (1997): Final Fantasy VII (actually bought it before the system) - I went completely nuts over this one. I didn't even have a computer with a CD drive at this point, so it was kind of a tech high for me. Still love the game, too. N64 (1999): Super Mario 64 - Back in '98 I actually rented an N64 and SM64 from a rental place for 6 days, and gave it back, begrudgingly, with 118 stars. After returning it (and paying off the crazy balance my weeklong binge had cost me), I slowly saved up to get my own, and when I did, 3 days later, I finished the job the right way. Shortly after that we got Mario Kart, Mario Party and 3 extra controllers and my sisters took the damn thing hostage. Dreamcast (2000): Sonic Adventure, Soul Calibur, Marvel vs Capcom, Dead or Alive 2 - Good times, good times. Got a $1000+ tax return and promptly dropped half of it on games (picked up Fear Effect and Thousand Arms the same day as these). I realized only when I got home that I forgot to buy a VMU, so we ran out the next day and got a cheap no-screen memory card for $10 at Wal-Mart. I still love these, even if nobody will play the latter two with me anymore. Another sigh. *PlayStation2 (2001): Metal Gear Solid 2, Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex, and Final Fantasy X two days later - Apparently, according to the family members who pooled their money for these that year, getting a PS2 meant going through the most persistent XBox-shilling salesperson on Earth. They say the conversation ended when my Mom (my MOM) gently referred to the XBox lineup as 'dogshit', and the seller clammed right up. Good games, even Crash, even though that one has the longest loading times ever seen on this mortal plane. GameBoy Advance (N/A): Castlevania Double Pack - Never actually owned my own GBA, but I've been using the GBA functionality on the DS Lite to get around to the ones I couldn't play on my nephew's. Sought this one out first because well, it's Castlevania, and the flash saving ensures a longer life for the games. *GameCube (2003): Zelda: Wind Waker - Another Christmas gift from Mom, who told a tearful tale wherein the guy holding the deck for her told her on the phone it had Wind Waker as a pack-in, and then completely backpedaled once she went to pick it up. So she called me ahead of time and essentially spoiled the surprise by asking me if I really wanted the deck and the game or if I wanted Megaman X7 instead. At the time, this was a tricky choice, as I was not yet aware that X7 was terrible. But I picked the GC and she picked up a ratty used copy of Wind Waker with it, which I wouldn't trade for anything. She's a sweetie. Nintendo DS (2006): Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, New Super Mario Bros, Super Princess Peach, Brain Age (PW was bought 6 months before I got a DS, and the other three were bought on the day I got the system) - Oh, what drama this was. I had no plans to get a DS until the Lite came out, but when I heard Phoenix wasn't going to be reprinted, I rushed out and bought it back in January. Graphic Adventure Law & Order-style***? Hell YES. But then came the wait...then the Lite delay...and a longer wait....all the while resisting the urge to just buy a regular DS in the meantime. But it finally came, and PW was completely friggin' worth the wait. Oh yeah, and the other games were nice, too. ***It should be mentioned that the L&O games for PC are completely awful and should be avoided. Whew...verbarrhea. Sorry about that. Jam it back in, in the dark. DAMN good coffee!
