Finally back home with my Wii and of course, I grabbed a copy of Mario Kart Wii. Please add, I will do the responsible thing and add/PM peoples on the board.

Should be on for some Mario Kart goodness on and off tonight. Still trying to unlock everything, but at least my Baby Mario/Bullet Bike combo is ready to go from the beginning.

Just found out about the Worldwide tournament going on right now (I've been out of the Mario Kart news)...I guess I like the fact that it is GP style since you can get items to help your time (i.e. you can't completely skill your way to the best score like in TT) but it is really damn annoying when those blue shells/lightning/POWs come your way when you're trying to finish that perfect race =/

In any case, I don't know if anyone else had a chance to try their hand at the tourney, but it apparently ends today (5/9). A good warmup to some Wifi fun tonight hopefully.

EDIT: Also, the tourney race right after I posted this, a blue shell came at me and I somehow managed to mushroom away from it O_O I thought that was the stuff of Youtube videos only. Too bad no one will believe me =/

But the rest of the race was a wash and I had to restart...bah!

You'll need to beat the staff ghost by a few seconds, the amount depends on the course. Basically if you have a comfortable 3-4 second lead on a staff ghost, then you'll get a "fast staff ghost" which counts towards unlocking things. You don't have to beat the fast ghost though.

I believe it's just saying you got a new record because it's looking at your own times, so if it's the first time you're playing a course, of course you'll get a new record.

But, even if you lose to the ghost...

You also unlock things just by having records on a course, regardless if you beat the ghost or not.

Fun times online! Luckily the night was not a negative result for my WFC ranking, despite the countless number of red shells that seemed to be heading my way. I'm looking at you Identity Crisis! >_>

Makes sense to me. Those are most of the Wiis that you're connecting with. I'm sure the same thing happens with Brawl (and soon enough, Dr. Mario). Maybe it just has to do more with the fact my friends list is actually quite small (i.e. few people to connect with through the message boards).

I let the Mii Contest channel decide who I should put on my Wii anyway. Like I'd want to see the face of the person who whupped me online all over the place on Mario Kart stages >_>

Unfortunately, I'm too set in my ways to start using the Wheel now. I dismissed it early on and haven't looked back. I get into a groove I like and stay there. Personal fault I guess. Most of the domination that I've given received seemed to come at the hand of manual players, but I'm sure auto has it's own benefits, why would they include such an unnecessary option then? It's not like it's there for difficulty (that's what 50cc is for). Given enough skill, I'm sure you could whup people in auto as well.

Hilariously, I'm actually playing a lot more Brawl nowadays since I didn't get the chance to play the hell out of it when it first came out since I had to leave the country a week right after. I did pick up Mario Kart for a little gaming today and I am pretty damn rusty. I'll need to get back into shape if we do something this coming weekend.

I was still far away from challenging grand prix for 2 stars so this break probably doesn't help things =/ I'll just have to enjoy single star-ness for awhile longer.
