I tend to avoid spoilers for most games that I'm interested in by staying away from any information about the story before it's release, but you can't really avoid spoilers that the game itself gives you on the box or in the manual.

in FFXII:

Spoiler:
The game tells you in the beginning that princess Ashe's dead, and that Basch has been executed, but the player already knows from just looking at the box or reading the manual that they are still alive and will be party members, which is basically incredibly silly since it takes like 10 hours or more before you actually find out the truth about their fake death. Those scenes really lost their impact because of the info that the developer itself provided.

Jam it back in, in the dark.
