Clicking sounds in general is not a good sign for your drive.

As has been said, test it in your PC case first (alternatively, use one of those IDE to USB cables) to confirm that it is not a problem with your external enclosure; what you do next is determined by how much you value the data in your hard drive. If it's not mission critical stuff, you probably can try salvaging it yourself. Otherwise, DO NOT do anything else to the drive, get it professionally recovered. There is still a good chance all your data is still intact if you haven't physically damaged your disk during the process.

Unfortunately, professional data recovery experts don't come cheap. Expect to pay at least twice the cost of the hard drive itself.

Jam it back in, in the dark.
