Pick up something small, a quarter, or maybe a pencil. Hold it before you with your arm outstretched, then release the object. Watch it fall.
See how the object appears to fall straight down, and isn't forcefully hurled into the walls, or worse, your abdomen?
That's the effect of the Earth still spinning.
