An old trick I did in high school (and to a lesser extent still do in college) when it came to girls is find some other girl to become attracted to and just think about her. Then, when you realize that this other girl isn't all she's cracked up to be (because she usually isn't), you clear your mind of her and you go back to square one.
Usually I can get people out of my head and stop meddling pretty quickly. It really depends on how important the person was. Jam it back in, in the dark.
