I prefer black, which is the absence of color. It doesn't have to do with

or anything, I think it's just the simplicity of it. I'm all for simplicity and minimalism when it comes to design and visuals, and black is as minimalist as it gets. Also, I look really good wearing it.

I've also been a huge fan of blue my entire life, but I think black commands more power over me than blue does nowadays.

Perhaps, as a filmmaker, you were thinking about it in terms of light, wherein white contains all color until it is refracted, and black is the absence of light?

Precisely. In dealing with film, color is determined by light. Absense of light = Absense of color, and so on in that fashion. Glad you picked up on that, though. We filmmakers think differently from you other artsy types
