I read this on Slashdot, where it was said that it has been widely rumored to have a Linux OS, and this comment from Iwata basically confirms it.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I will re-quote it and bold the important words. I could be wrong in all this, but it sounds convincing.

Quote:
Wii is the first system from Nintendo that we can continue to be involved in (via operating system updates) after the customer buys it. This means that Wii will greatly expand and diversify the ways in which people will enjoy games in the future. I hope you are looking forward to it as much as I am.
Supposedly, from what I've read, the Wii is running a proprietary Linux-based kernal, but I can't find any sources right now. Again, I could be wrong, I just found it interesting.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I got an email from GameStop this morning confirming it. You know I'll be there

Double Post:
The question now is what games, if any, do I preorder. It's down to two of these four-

1. Excite Truck
2. Zelda
3. Super Monkey Ball
4. WarioWare (if it's a launch title)

The decision making begins!

I was speaking idiomatically.

I'll be there armed with my DS and Megaman ZX at 9AM tomorrow, an hour before the store opens. I think I should have a decent shot at getting it.

My question is, why would they be so damned short stocked if Nintendo is going to have three times as many units than the PS3?

Good luck fellas. I'm outta here in about a half hour myself. Gonna reserve Zelda, Excite Truck, a controller/nunchuck combo, and then ask about the classic controller and pick up one of those if I can.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

Success!

There were only 13 units available at my store, and I was 6th in line. I got there an hour early, while the guys before me get there at 6:00 (lol). It was a cool time though, we just shot the shit for an hour, bashing Sony and having some awesome geek conversations.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

They didn't have trouble, because I went in there and did it no problem. I just wanted to get it done, that's all.

Hmm... I've been considering switching my pre-order from Excite Truck to something else, and I might consider it further after reading your impressions. Was it atleast fun once you got into it?

You guys really think this-

Is better than this??

I dunno, I like the Japanese one, but the American box wins points for being simple and brilliant at the same time. I've always loved that piece of artwork and was thrilled when they made it the box art. I think it's absolutely beautiful.

I got everything I wanted minus the classic controller. My store didn't get them in, apparently. Oh well. Small amount of impressions before i continue playing-

Wii Sports is a fucking BLAST. It's extremely easy to get into, and it's fun fun FUN!

Monkey Ball is hard but also fun. I have yet to get into the later levels, because I've been having lots of fun with...

ZELDA! Fucking awesome so far. Doesn't have the same spirit of Ocarina... yet... But I still haven't even gotten my sword and shield yet, so, we'll see!

I'm very impressed with this system. It's easy to use, easy to get into, but most importantly it's a blast to play. I wish there were more VC games available, but oh well.

Mine works just fine, although I'm now being overly cautious about system updates until I hear the problem is resolved.

I agree, the game looks absolutely beautiful despite not having component video yet. All i have to say is, just wait till you get to the Faron Woods before you pass judgement.

When are the game stores getting their component cables in??

Nintendo is shipping some component cables ordered on the cutoff date earlier than expected. I got an email saying that mine got shipped today! Kick ass!

Got my component cables today. Came in a nice box that's different from all the other Wii accessories. The cable is also much thicker than I thought it was going to be. Can't wait to try them out!

I ordered my cables ON the cut-off date. I think I just got lucky!

The difference is nice, but the only places I truly notice it are on the HUD for Zelda. The icons are EXTREMELY crisp and I can make out even the most minute detail. Other than that, it's still an incredibly beautiful game, it's just a bit more crisp now. I don't get these people who say "omg it looks liek a blob lol" because it never looked THAT bad to me with the composite cables.

Either way, happy with my purchase, because now it can also be hooked into the 5.1 system

Infernal - I often have jittery pointer problems on the menu but not in games. Does it happen regardless of your distance to the TV? There's no sweet spot or anything?

A fabulous idea, and also, check the Sensor Bar settings to make sure the position is not set for above when it's below, and vice versa!

Awesome, two great announcements right there. Manhunt was always a title I wanted to see get Wii-ized. Imagine the stealth kills, how brutal they could be to replicate with the wiimote. Awesome!
