wow this is surprising. I invested on the ps3 thinking it would have some nice exclusives and here I am now being kicked in the crotch by it.
Sure it's a smart move by square, getting the game out to everyone but even so I'm still getting it for ps3 since I don't want to get an xbox and i don't care much for it's exclusives either.
360 has never been the strongest at rpg's either so maybe this will help as well

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Actually, the 360 has been THE RPG console this generation so far.
well 360 has actually been THE console to have this generation. For some reason I hardly count the wii as a console. Just a minigame for the family.
Although the rpg category hasn't really been all that strong. All I can really think of is lost odyssey and eternal sonada and I don't even know the plot to those except the whole memory thing. Mostly a generation of FPS

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

So you bought a console based on your assumption that certain games wouldn't come out on another console? That's fair enough, if a little naive given that pretty much all the big games are multiplatform eventually these days but I can follow your line of thought. What I don't get though is why it's a kick in the crotch that they're going to be available on other consoles too. It's not going to reduce the quality of the game and you'll still be able to play it on the console you bought so what's the problem? Unless of course you wanted to get a 360 to play Halo but went for the PS3 for FFXIII but now you could have got a 360 after all in which case, gutted, you better get saving up for a 360.
No it's not going to reduce the quality of the game of course but lets just say you bought an xbox because you heard and everyone assumed that the most popular game in the console, Halo, is now going to be exclusive to the 360 (which it is) BUT they suddenly announce that the game is going to come out for the ps3 as well.
Now let us just say that you originally wanted to get a ps3 but was overwhelmed by the hype of halo. Now you have your xbox and ready for halo, but guess what, now you hear that halo is coming out on the ps3 which is the system you wanted first. (and of course all hypothetical thought is in past tense)
Granted, that this is what just happened to the ps3 with FFXIII but what if other titles such as white knight story, god of war 3 (Which is doubtfull seeing as its a sony game), and other ps2 sequels which were once exlcusive to sony now all coming to multiplatform when your original assumptions were that they would be ps3 exclusive and thought "alright, i can only afford one console at the moment, let go with the one which has exclusives I'm familiar with and I know I'll probably enjoy"

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

Here's what i don't understand about this argument, maybe you can help me out here.

In what you said above about buying the xbox for Halo 3, one assumes you probably bought the console reasonably close to when the game came out, not several years out. I can understand wanting to make the 'best' choice in console purchases if your money's tight and you can only afford one, but I just don't understand making that choice so many years before the games you wanted are going to come out. You know what I mean? Why lock your money into one console simply because of one game, or a few games, if no other games that had come out until this point really pulled you?

*sigh* because you never actually know when the damn companies are going to change their damn mind, Honestly, before today did you even consider FFXIII to be in xbox. Sure you can predict some exclusive square games for xbox but an actual final fantasy after it's been hyped so much for ps3. Or what about the tech demo for FFVI that they had years ago for N64, didn't anyone think that at that time square would stick with nintendo.
Lets go back to olden times and make pretend that things back then work as they do now. You get a sega genesis because you love that blue hedgehog over the fat plumber. Sonic is sega's mascot so of course it'll stay exclusive to genesis. But guess what, they change their mind and decide to spread the love of sonic throughout all consoles, which is brilliant financially, but not fair to the people who were told and assumed that it would stay exclusively to sega.
Sure both consoles get the same game but we all buy one specific console because the selling point are the exclusives, not the damn interface. If that was the case there should be one super console to play all games and then there would be no competition on hardware, only software.

I guess it doesn't matter really though. YOu had already made your bed, and you're prepared to lie in it. I'm just wondering why people did this in the first place, I guess.
what is that really suppose to mean? People always go for the console which either interest them the most or which ever had their interest in the last gen.
You make it sound as if ps3 owners should regret their decision, which I don't. There are still exclusives for the ps3 and both consoles carry a majority of the same games. A lot of the exclusives for the xbox I can easily get for the PC, so I'm not regretting my ps3, I'm just disappointed in the things that sony is losing thus far.

I was speaking idiomatically.

That's what I mean. If the big game you're waiting for is FFXIII, which was announced in like 2006 and probably won't be released until the end of this year at the minimum, why did you buy a console before now? Were there other games coming out for the PS3 that you wanted? That's all I'm asking, why people bought a console for a game that was going to come out well over a year or two later than the purchase.
Well I bought my ps3 in jan of 08, well after a few great games were already out in the market and after the price drop so I don't know why some people assume that everyone that suspected FFXIII to be exclusive bought the ps3 in day 1.
So I got my ps3 way after they started the creation of final fantasy XIII and the decision to make it multi couldn't have been that same day on e3. And like I said before, I'm not pissed that FFXIII went to branch out (thats great to those who can't afford both consoles.) Just disappointed that sony has become so careless to lose so many exclusives. Soon enough all they'll have left is SCEA.
I would have known before hand that both consoles would be twins then i would have gone with the cheapest.
Well no I lied there. Theres no exclusive that would have taken my attention away from mgs4 . Although the cancellation of heavenly sword 2 was also kinda of a blow ~_~
Wonder twin powers Activate!

I honestly thought the younger looking girl and lightining were one in the same when I saw the new trailer. I thought maybe that was her with a different hair style and then the game would jump years later and she'd become a badass but now, it just seems that girl will the annoying companion :/

Also saw the FFvsXIII trailer, I like the darker tone of that a lot better. I'd always prefer a dark story so hopefully it will deliver just that.

2010 is bullshit release but not so surprising is it?
I just wish that a lot of these ps3 games would come with dual languages or subtitles like some companies promised way back in the ps3 release, that way I wouldn't hesitate to import a copy.

I honestly thought the opening dialog during the fireworks were pretty bad but then after that it pretty much fixed itself. So no big complaints, I'm guessing they rushed those voices to get them in the trailer so in the final version it'll be decent enough.
I hope they still give some sort of star ocean type of option for text/voices just in case.

It's funny I've been seeing comparisons everywhere but from what I see the entertainment value should still be roughly the same. I say "roughly" because of the 3 disc thing for the 360 version. (remember switching disc for Fear Effect 2?) It's something that can be overlooked though.
I honestly didn't realize this was coming so early this month because i was more excited for heavy rain. My Anticipation for this game died down after a while and some reviews say it's not as great as it could have been. Regardless of that I already pre-ordered it for ps3. It looks fun, stylish, and colorful, which not many games have nowadays because of the whole fps madness with dull colors.
I'm hoping to enjoy the faster pace of the fighting system since I wasn't a fan of the whole mmorpg style of part 12.
Now that I'm done with heavy rain and I need a distraction till god of war comes out, it's like the scheduling is perfect for these games.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Ok I started playing the game and first I have to say, that I had no big expectations for the game and now that I am four hours in, my expectations aren't rising.
So far it feels rushed and aside from the fantastic visuals it's boring. Not having the fun I had with the other games released recently.
By rushed I mean "Oh hey here are the characters, He loves this girl. Now read the fucking Menu information to know more." Let me at least know the characters before you put me in the middle of a huge story with terms I don't even understand.
I have heard that the game gets better after a few hours but I have to say that so far, I had more of a blast playing through FFX the first time than I am with this.

After chapter 4 the story is about to unfold a bit more the battle system has definitely gotten more complex rather than the 5 star mashing battles. Sahz and Vanille I've found to be a horrible pair for getting five star ratings, Don't know why I care about rating, they don't do much, but it does show that they suck without a good offensive player on the team.
Finally reached the first hard boss battle. I've died before but that's because it was during the learning of the new battle features or getting used to switching classes but this time I died legitimately.

Chapter four boss.
Spoiler:
It's fucking Odin. He killed me so fast, I don't have enough time to attack once i'm healed. Good thing I can still win as long as I keep Healing Hope. (haha what a stupid name)

It gives you the *illusion* of choice, and you get a few different branches to work with, but in all honesty it's pretty linear.
I was thinking the exact same thing. Which makes the GT review laughable because they say that they give the most freedom in character development.
It gives you a choice in which class you want to level up first but I withhold my CP until I have 1000-2000 and pretty much level everyone up almost to the max. I'm sure later in the game it will grow in cost but the only reason I level up is because I have the points, not really because I need to. At least not yet.

I was speaking idiomatically.

I just got to chapter 7 and each "sphere" takes up to 400cp now. So I'm up to the point where I save up to 3,000 before I decide to use them. I basically concentrate on commando for whoever is able to use it. Things like blitz and launching are necessities.
By "Max Level" I mean leveling up to the most possible at the point, then I still have enough CP for the next stages.
Every time I used Snow I had around 16,000 cp waiting for him so it was pretty overwhelming leveling him up.

What a fucking turn this game has made. You assume the entire thing is going to be linear and suddenly you're thrown into an open world where the monsters turn out to be 5 times or 10 times stronger depending on how you were playing the game and each power up is 4000-8000 points. Seriously? All I've been playing before this was just the fucking tutorial? And I thought the Kingdom hearts 2's two hour tutorial was long.

Sentinels are mostly useful in boss battles I've found. They can be a good distraction while you're prepping your characters or healing them from a crucial state.
I mostly use them in this order.

Sentinel, medic, medic
Sentinel, medic, saboteur
Sentinel, synergist, saboteur
Sentinel, synergist, medic and so on . . .

You don't necessarily need support, you could go balls out with the occasional medic, but it makes battles go more smoothly this way.

About the sound. I needed to put my tv settings to surround in order to get all the audio even. Now it's good listenings.

You'd be a fool if you try to get every class for a single character right away. Even when you maxed out the current levels don't try to learn the other classes. Just wait until the crystilarium(?) opens up the new levels and max them out. I'm 40 hours in the game with all level 4's and the final levels haven't opened up yet. It's obviously going to take some massive amount of time to max everything out. I have 775,000 cp for Sahz (haven't been using him much) and it's not even close enough to max everything at my current state.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I just beat it a few minutes ago. I found a lot of thing lacking and many things fun.
I was expecting the ending to redeem any broken parts to the story and to my surprise . . .

Spoiler:
IT FUCKING DIDN'T! I hated the ending with a passion. I thought the true intentions of the villain who kept letting me go over and over again would reveal themselves at the end but instead he screams "SWEET RELEASE!". Fuck you!
I stopped caring all together at that point. Fang's intentions in the end were ignorant and i thought to myself "I wish someone would have sacrificed themselves to at least make a decent ending".
To my surprise, it didn't, I didn't care any about Vanille but I liked fang but I still didn't feel any sadness for her like the game intended. I don't know if it was because the characters didn't feel developed enough, or maybe they were just too typical, but I didn't get attached to any of them. Sahz was the most interesting in my opinion, I liked his quest to save his son but after I have all the characters, he's nothing more but a supporting speaker and after Hope acquires Haste, Sahz is useless in battle which eliminates any more screen time for him.
I really tried to like this game, I thought the ending was going to save everything but it only made things worse. The entire ending stages were the worst and an eyesore.
All the reviewers say that the sweet spot is in 25-30 hours, but I say that that's when the game goes downhill slowly and entirely.

I was such an FF fan too, I'm hating the fact that I hate the story so much.
Also, Crystarium expanded at Final BOSS! GTFO of here!

Spoiler:

Oh and the crysterium expands because you can continue your game after you beat it. Mainly for the Titans trial mission marks which are considerably stronger than Orphan or any other boss. Tier 10 Grid has some huge stat boosts. Most of the non story related trophies cannot be obtained outside of the New game +.
Spoiler:

It should have expanded BEFORE that. What's one more level anyway?

I was fresh out of seeing the ending last night, so my feelings were pretty intense about it. Now that I have had a night to process. I kinda still feel the same way. A lot of the villains only had around 4 shots of screen time which made me not care if they died. Especially Cid's random revival and immediate death.
Fangs goal at the end were pretty ignorant, and pretty much all of the final fights defeated the entire purpose of the game. I wasn't the biggest FF7 fan since I had it spoiled and I played it 5 years late but that game at least had some turns in the story. In 13 they let the main characters go so they could defeat orphan, the bosses die, orphan is obviously the real boss and then because he looks evil they kill him anyways.
Lighting says "To make the impossible, possible. That is our focus!" No! It's NOT! It's to kill orphan. See? You're killing orphan. You're completing your focus. They failed in having any real twist in the story.
The story was as linear as the game. I think to wrap it up, I didn't hate the happy ending, I just hate how they delivered it with the final scenes.

damn, I didn't mean to rant again.
The characters are pretty.

Gaming, I've been doing nothing but ranting in these spoilers <_<
It's hard to say if there are sad scenes without spoiling a little bit. I'll say that there are emotional scenes, but nothing worth shedding a tear about.

How ya doing, buddy?
