I'm not any good at these online games, chances are I'll die a lot but since this is mgs4 and I already have the beta code it should be tons of fun.

I thought the same thing when he said that. I'm guessing that if it is possible to play the whole game in fps then maybe you would have to to just shoot like crazy through the entire game or maybe there will be a lot of quick camera movements like when peeking through the corner or rolling on the ground kinda like in scenes cod4.
But since the mgs series is in third person there will be a lot of things which will be limited in fps mode, like the slower movement, but if for some reason the fps mode is almost perfected/enjoyable on mgs it might give other companies ideas to incorporate this in other games to give the player options.

I didn't know about the pain in the ass registering system until after the update.
I thought I had freed myself from the long slow download since I didnt see anything of an update but thats becuase i couldnt load the damn user agreement ><!

hahaha very funny konami, first screwing up by sending incomplete beta codes and now they weren't ready for a huge mgs fanbase ready to play and the day the beta starts.

this is the first taste of any real mgs4 gameplay before the real games comes out in june and konami just screws everything up. I might not even be free this weekend. Not only that but gta4 is about to come out as well which will decrease my play time. I guess it'll just depend which game I find more entertaining when the time comes.

oh wow i love the character creation. It's one of the reasons why I spent so much time in city of heroes and the old wwe game. It just gives a more unique feeling than the rest of the other players but then of course you don't want to stand out with brighter colors than the other players and make yourself a target
I can only imagine how much more deeper the creation will be in the final game

Also has anyone traveled through konami site, it was going so slow so I couldn't go through much but is it possible to add friends game ID's through there or is it only possible when within the beta?

I played for like 2 minutes without going into the training so don't jump straight into playing until you go into training and familiarize yourself with the controls because it doesn't feel anything like the other mgs games
I'm going to play again later when I have more liberating time and also to record some gameplay, so I guess I'll see you guys online

actually when i tried to connect to the snake lobby there was a network error. No problem with the otacon one tho

EDIT: So a just played a good while of MGO and I have to ask, is anyone else experiencing a bunch of lags on these servers. And I mean a lot. At first it plays ok and then the controls take 2 seconds to respond to my actions so it's almost impossible for me to shoot anything.
The few matches that did play fine tho were kinda fun but I find the scheme of the controls to be very broken. You can press L1 to go over the shoulder but then you have to press triangle in order to go into first person and unless your use to the controls your timing isn't going to be so great when you decide to get a precise shot to the head. I had to set my fps movement down to 3 since the anolog felt way to sensitive when moving and I'd overshoot my target.
And still, I noticed a lot of people just run randomly into each other and shoot like crazy and basically have a shoot-off while standing still until someone dies. Which is why I think the auto-aim shouldn't have been implemented into the game at all since I think a lot of people will have it on at all times and shoot each other in the body for like 10 seconds unless of course your being gang "banged"
Well so far the Lag is my biggest problem, could be my connection but I have no problems with COD4 so I'm guessing konami is having problems with their servers still.

sure i'd be good to play later. I didn't have a good experience before since my wireless connection might have given me some lag but it should be running perfectly now.

I couldn't agree with you more. I quit after two minutes and later that day I went into training. I didn't actually do the training missions I just played around the whole field and I found out the majority of the controls. Even the ground maneuvers which were advertised but those controls are more advanced.
After training I found myself kicking ass....a little too much that it was a bit too easy. I think a lot of other people didn't train either, and they just rush while I try to sneak and hide behind some cover to abush them. Unless its a good lobby, auto matchmaking matches you with some easier "prey".

I also don't see enough people using the knife, especially since you can't re-equip it with the tap of R2 (what the hell is up with that) but the knife is a very good weapon to catch some easy shots.
And a word of advise for those who are just starting to learn the controls. Don't tap the R1 button when you want to grab. Hold it, so you can really knock them into the ground or disorient them and quickly lock on or aim at them for a quick kill.

Other than that, after you get used to the controls you can really enjoy the game but that doesn't mean that the controls are perfect. First person mode kinda sucks. CQC maneuvers are a little off since you can do it right in front a person and completely misses and switching through the weapon kinda suck since you can't go right back to your previously chosen weapon all the time.

yes awesome! thats what I've been waiting for. I had so much fun with this mode in the previous susbsistence online so I can't wait to get into this one.

They need to seriously trash the damage sound effects, or at least heavily revamp them so I won't basically cringe when I hear it and almost feel a little embarrassed when one of my roommates is watching me play.

Other than those gripes, I think I wasn't enjoying it as much because I just straight up suck at the game right now. I will run up to a guy and start slamming R1 screaming "WHY THE FUCK WON'T I CQC HIS ASS?", only to realize that I had an assault rifle equipped instead of a pistol/knife. I would love to play with some of you guys and get better, because I know the better you are at a game the more fun it can be. I know I'll like it more as I continue to play it, but I also think those changes will speed up the enjoyment process as well.

I'm curious to what improvements you guys think the game needs. What are your gripes with the game? Anything they should patch/fix/add/remove/whatever for the final release?

I had the exact same complaints. Except for the screams since they kept it as if snake was dying from game over and I thought it was a little funny that all the characters scream like that and then you know "omg someone died!"

I also didn't enjoy the game as much but you need to train and learn the controls and then you'll have a blast because you are given so many options to take someone out.
And as for the health, thats why I use cqc now. I said before that way too many people just run into each other and use the auto target to see who falls first which I hate.
If you have an M4 or Ak or whatever you can use R1 BUT, don't just tap it. Get near an enemy and hold it, the camera will slighty move to adjust and see yourself throw your enemy then quickly aim or lock on and shoot the crap out of him. It's a much more efficient kill than just waiting to see who last the longest in direct gunfire which i just find retarted.
I know alot of online people just stood there and shot at me but I just ran in front of them and threw them into the ground and took care of them. They probably thought I'd die before I reach them but thats what rolling is for. Also hiding behind a wall is so much fun since you can rotate the camera and see the enemy run right into your trap completly oblivious. remember to use some form of stealth and you'll find yourself kicking ass. Hell I thought the boxes would be useless but there are so many scattered around the stage that it's just perfect

I didn't play as snake but MKII was damn fun. I didn't realize i could use camo until I was down on the ground rotating the analog to get back in commission. after that I just zapped like crazy.

Leveling up the weapon are a bit harder than I thought.
Oh and i finally got to try out snake. I sucked at it since his controls were a bit more different but I was exited so finally play as him.
Octocamo is so damn effective I wonder if the final version of Online will have an option for all players to have octocamo, that would be interesting

I'm still hooked on single player, all i did on mgo was register my character and thats it. Oh and whats up with the whole "pay up" crap if you want three more slots?

I've still only touched the character registration since I'm going for the big boss emblem and thats taking most of my mgs time but if someone does create a clan with some matches planned out then count me in, although i'm still at the lowest level. I don't suppose theres a required level to join a clan as well.

all these techniques sound very interesting. I never really got around leveling up my techniques in the beta so i may jump in tonight and finally try out the real thing.

I did have a problem with cod4 though, everytime I hook up my mic it makes the game lag terribly. I really hope mgo doesn't do this

I not only hold R1 but also left or right along with it, its the shiznat.

I just finished playing my first official match and I'm not sure if it was because I was fiarly decent with the beta or if both teams sucked because i was able to to do things like spot a person with stealth in my first try, cqc a few people, actually get headshots!, and be on the top of the list after a match. All without using Auto-aim (I used to use auto aim all the time in the beta =0) and actually getting some good shots in.
I must have been lucky because I'm never good at online games. I'll just take advantage of the moment and go kill more idiots who run around in the open.

Oh and activating my blutooth drops my bars in an instant and lags like theres no tomorrow. Seriously.

i usually like that feature for easy kills but I decided to leave it off during the main single player game so i can get some practice with it since I was also practicing so that when I get online since I found that you can empty two full clips with auto aim and amount to almost nothing, and it payed off I guess since most of my kills so far have been headshots.

oh on I found out about the camera. If we ever get that clan started we must take a group shot or something

two hours into playing mgo and I'm in level 2 so far. I am so addicted to this now since its not only fun but it creates some memorable moment. Like when I caught this one guy in a cardboard box and I chased after him, he went into a corner and pretended to be a normal box and he thought I didn't see him so I ran to him prepared with my gun when I noticed one dude in my back chasing me so I ran past the box guy and rolled, the guy in back of me followed while the box guy jumped out and tried to cqc me but instead caught his teammate and dropped him to the floor while I took them both out. Priceless

I also tried out the new mode which was mentioned and that was a lot of fun, stealth still has its disadvantages which is a good thing I just hope they bring back some other modes like snake vs everybody like grawl mentioned before.
Oh and I finally got a chance to sneak people with snake, and now that I knew what I was doing it was awesome, I lost 4 seconds before the match ended ;_;
