What do you do with your old music?

Well, for a little preface, I was watching MTV or VH1 one day and some some music videos for a band called Hoobastank titled "The Reason" and "Same Direction." The two videos I saw were connected (as far as the music video story and plot went which dealt with stealing some precious gem). I liked the music videos and the songs and decided to download them to listen to.

Anyway, just recently after my hard drive failed and I lost a lot of my music, I decided to download the music video for "Same Direction" just to watch it and listen to the song, which I thought was pretty good. After a while, I decided, well, I like a couple of the band's song, why not just download the whole album (entitled "The Reason"), so I did. And it turns out that I like almost every song, except one, on there.

So, I've played the songs on my Winamp playlist, but it seems that whenever my Winamp plays some of the older songs I have, I feel myself wanting to skip over them and selecting a song from the album I just downloaded instead. I've actually gotten quite sick of some of the older songs on my playlist and and now contemplating whether I want to just archive them or just flat out delete them, because they are starting to get on my nerves.

Therein is the discussion, what do you do with your old music? Are the majority of your CDs or records collecting dust on a shelf or in a bin somewhere? Maybe you traded them in for newer music? Are there any "classic" or "timeless" songs that you listen to over and over and it never gets old to you, even though it may not be "hip" or "cool" now?

I also wonder about this whole "flavor of the month" thing going on as well, since I did like some of the older songs on my playlist, I mean, that's why I downloaded them in the first place, but why am I getting sick of them? Is it that my interests in music have changed, or is it because the older music is just so stagnant and I want to hear something fresh, or just going through a different phase of life? Hmm...

Jam it back in, in the dark.
