EDIT: lol
I apologize for not catching this far sooner, and in fact would not have caught it if Drakken had not IMed me fifteen minutes ago. I had thought Back in Time II was an album like Power Game Hits, but it actually appears to be a fan C64 arrangement album. Jogeir Liljedahl, the person who arranged this track, has no VGM credits, so this arrangement is ineligible. Since no one has voted yet, I don't feel bad about pulling the plug on the track. I'm going to PM Draconis asking if he would like to change the nom. If he doesn't get back to me in 24 hours, I'll replace it with Elorin's nomination, as he is next in the queue. Sorry, guys. ![]() How ya doing, buddy? |
haha just kidding folks Liljedahl actually does have VGM credits so this track's still good
I have no idea how I botched up that search, because I did check MobyGames before posting. Must've gotten his first AND last name wrong. ![]() So anyway, Galway Is God 2000 is eligible. I've gotten off to a smashing start this week! Additional Spam: Sorry to everyone, especially Draconis. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
The rules vote results are in!
Definition of "Professional VGM Composer" Discretion method it is! Original Piece Time Restriction No change in the rules: if a composer's original or unpublished arrange tracks are eligible, then they will all be eligible regardless of when they were composed. And wouldn't you know it, we've already got a test of our new professional VGM composer definition, courtesy of Darkcomet72!
He's pretty famous for his original stuff. He also has contributed to the soundtracks for 10 games. Basehead is another tracker, who was also one of the cofounders of Five Musicians. He also worked with Alexander Brandon (who also started in the demoscene) on two original albums, AtmosphereS: Cultures and AtmosphereS: Pulses. He has four credits. I think this song should be eligible because This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
The time restriction vote is not the issue at all, and even if nominations were restricted to original pieces only after the first VGM credit, this would still be good in that respect because Sega's first credit is 1994 and this is 1995.
The issue I was trying to get at was are these folks VGM composers enough? EDIT: Whoops, didn't see your edits. :[ I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
![]() Some clarifications on a few of the credits:
I also found another credit for Grandpre under the name Dan Gardopee (which is apparently his legal name): Vigilante 8: 2nd Offense, co-composed with Alexander Brandon. (I had no idea Brandon worked on the soundtracks to Vigilane 8 and its sequel. )In addition, both Sega and Grandpre/Gardopee contributed music to the Unreal expansion pack Return to Na Pali. I was speaking idiomatically. |
Besides, it'd give more time to figure out if Darkcomet72's nom is eligible.
![]() What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Just thought I'd throw that one out there. Arrangements of tracks that have already appeared in SotW is an issue we've never really had to figure out how to deal with. I'm not trying to pick on you, really. ![]() FELIPE NO |
I was thinking about this more, and I realized, "hey, we allow whole tracks that have been nominated before to be nominated again if they haven't placed, right?" And certainly, letting in an arrangement of a track that hasn't placed is no worse on the notability scale than letting in a track that hasn't placed, at least assuming adequate time has passed. Week 47 was quite a while ago, so I retract any objection.
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
It's slipped my mind for a few days to post this nomination of Dragon God's.
![]()
Also, while it's on my mind, anyone have any suggestions of how long we should run the SotW break for? Running it until the first round of the SAUS finishes would be way too long, as would running it until the BSC finishes. It might be better not to pick a specific milestone and just bring it back when it "seems right," but that's too nebulous and it would be really nice to have a fixed date in the interest of retaining interest. So that we're not completely bored out of our skulls, I'm going to run a poll for the eligibility of Darkcomet72's proposed nomination at some point in time during the break. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Also:
How ya doing, buddy? |
Voting is closed! Nominations are still open because I still think at least a short break would be beneficial to BSC/SAUS participants to get at least partially caught up in either event. Plus I was kind of counting on a break for DC72 nom discussion.

Eligibility voting ahoy. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Man, with all these late nominations, Week 101 has turned into Vocal Week.
![]() Also, does anyone actually care about this? I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
I trust everyone has had a pleasant week of catch-up? Caught up with your SAUS/BSC backlog, and all that? 512 tracks is certainly a massive amount, and that contest is hurtling forward at sonic speed.
It appears that pretty much everyone who cared enough to vote seemed okay with Search for the Lost Riff, much to my enjoyment because it's an awesome track and chagrin because it'll be up against a nom of mine. Anyway, I suppose I should get to the real reason why I've called all of you here today. Most people were in favor of the break being as short as possible, so I am hereby enacting that SotW will start as usual tomorrow. I expect we will end up going onto a biweekly schedule again as there are still quite a few SAUS tracks remaining, but I suppose we can deal with that eventuality when it gets to the weekend. With this policy also comes the ISO 3103-compelled decision that nominations are now restricted. I apologize to any nominators who were hoping to get a slot into the vaunted milestone Week 100, but we must be moving forward if we intend to remain at the top of our industry. Of course, slots for Week 101 are still open, and I heartily encourage the nomination of vocal tracks for it in the spirit of creating an impromptu theme week. That's all I have on the agenda for this meeting, so if there are no questions, you are all free to return to work. Carol, as soon as you have finished up those minutes, I'd appreciate it if you could e-mail them to me and the entire department. Thanks for your attendance, people. How ya doing, buddy? |
