Pianist Kentaro Haneda, known as the host of the popular TV program "Daimei no Nai Ongakukai 21" ("Concert without a name 21"), died on Saturday of liver cancer, it was learned Monday. He was 58.
Funeral services for Haneda are to be held at Azabusan Zenpukuji Temple in the Motoazabu district of Minato-ku, Tokyo, beginning at 10 a.m. on Thursday.
A native of Tokyo, Haneda majored in piano at Toho Gakuen School of Music, and won third place in the piano section of a music competition organized by the Mainichi Shimbun and other organizations in 1970.
He had since been active as a pianist, arranger and composer. He gained popularity for his humor as the host of TV Asahi's Daimei no Nai Ongakukai.
He fell ill in April this year, and had since been in and out of hospital.
