Wild Arms: Vth Vanguard

New scans and information released!

General Information

The fifth game will be returning to the traditional style of Wild Arms. The game takes place on Filgaia as always but the game will be structured like the first three games where there will be a world map with dungeons and towns scattered around. No word if the search function will make a return.

Dungeons will be more similar to the first three games, being structured like 3D puzzle maps. However the ability to jump slide and use Accelerator to 'slow time' will be available to use in dungeons so I would expect some of the platforming aspects of WA4 to return, though not to such a degree as they were used in WA4. No word on how the tool system will be handled as of yet. The encounter avoidance system from WA5 is also based off of the system defined in WA4.

The HEX battle system of Wild Arms 4 will be making a return in Wild Arms 5. It's said to be greatly refined and the battle camera has been largely reworked to give the player a 'battlefield' level view of the action rather than a top-down perspective used in WA4.

Character Information

Returning to the original Wild Arms, there will only be three main characters. Unlike past games, there will not be a prologue to introduce each character. The three characters are as follows:

Dean Stark

16 year old boy raised in a quiet town who dream about becoming a Golem Hunter. Considered the 'main character' of the game.

Avalil Van Freul

20 year old non-human girl who falls from the sky in the left hand of a Golem. Seems she has lost her memory and can only recall the phase Johnny Appleseed. (what?) Unlike most characters of this archtype, she is actually talkative and full of life.

Rebecca Streisand

16 year old girl. Not much is know about her at this point other that she is the traditional ARM user of the group.

The 'shovel' is a Chinese weapon which I cannot recall the name of at the moment. It's more of an axe but yeah it does look like a shovel. The name was something that roughly translated to "Crescent Heaven Blade Shovel" or something ridiculous like that.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Wild Arms 4 had text overflow problems as well? The only text related problem I recall was the issue with Judes first ability. Though I could be completely wrong as I pretty much played WA4 and WA:ACF back to back and may be confusing the two. I know ACF had tons of localization issues and a ridiculous level of text overflow problems.

How ya doing, buddy?

I can't approve of these cheesy-ass animu story sequences, though. I will never play this damn game in front of anyone.
Aw, come on it wouldn't be Wild Arms without a massively cheesy story and characters.

The world map was basically removed in WA4 and replaced with a Final Fantasy Tactics style map so the behind the back style is something new. The encounter avoidance system also sounds exactly like it was for WA4 and one aspect I enjoyed.

Quick question though. How is the character dialog handled? In WA4 they did this comic book style cut-in for the dialog which did nothing but chop up the flow of the game making them extremely annoying.

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

There was a short quote in the February 2007 issue of EGM stating Wild Arms 5 will be coming to the US this summer. No word on who is handling the localization.

I was speaking idiomatically.

All copies!? Or first 100 or so?
That's almost too sweet of a deal.
Actually the wording over at XSeed is 'all launch units' so who knows how many that covers. It's an 80 page artbook though that covers the entire Wild Arms series.

Well the cheesiness of Wild Arms is part of its charm I guess.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?
