AT1 is an excellent game even with its flaws. And if AT2 comes out and you are planning on getting it then you are going to want to play AT1. The games do sit on their own but they are all still part of a planned trilogy and you are going to get a much better experience out of AT2 if you had previously played AT1.
Hell if you like RPGs there is no way you can pass this up for $20. There's nowhere I can't reach.
