More than likely is was the result of OpenOffice running out of system resources simply by attempting to open a single document. As a result your computer reached out to every connected network device (routers, printers, the XBox) hoping to find free CPU cycles and free memory SOMEWHERE in attempt to handle the tremendous bloat that is OpenOffice.org. In doing so, no doubt it crashed your router in the process and broke your interweb.
