I've been hearing a lot of people talk about shiny pokemon pretty often. Are they somehow easier to obtain or something?

The last one I bought was FireRed, which was a few weeks ago. There should be a 3rd Pokemon game coming out, that's the "special" of Diamond and Pearl, right? If that happens, I'll probably buy that and look for some shiny pokemon to trade. A shiny Gastly is something I've wanted. That or a shiny Abra.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I'm popping in here kinda late, but Corocoro mentioned last month that Nintendo would reveal the third 4th generation pokemon game come May. Lo and behold, scans are already out on it and apparently Nintendo will deliver the goods come May 16th.

Edit: Whoops, forgot to mention that the name of the game is Pokemon Platinum.

Large Scantron Collider:
Thanks a lot, I never new it was announced. I was even beginning to doubt one coming anytime soon.

Also, how common is it to find a mew that doesn't have a crappy IV, aka not hacked? I've always wanted to train one from the start, and I'll try and use this game as that opportunity. I've also concluded that at least half of my team, most likely all of my team will be of the original 151. I may get one new one if I think it looks nice.
But yeah, rarity of decent IV Mews? And value of them?

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

Oh. For some reason, based on a previous post about alternate colored pokemon having IVs of ten, thought that applied for all hacked Pokemon. And obtaining a Mew with a hackingly high IV would be looked down upon. Bleh, maybe I'll find someone who has a fair Mew up for trade. Or donation. Probably donation.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Just wondering. What stats do you guys EV train on? Is the generally the same for each Pokemon, whichever stats that Pokemon is weakest in, whichever stats that Pokemon is strongest in, or what?
Also, is HP a bad thing to EV train it, or would it be better for defense? I know in most MMOs I've played having a lot of HP pretty much outranks most other stats for survival, though I'm unsure if it works that well in Pokemon. I'm currently EV training my Kadabra in HP and SATK, though I may end up changing SATK to something else. I can't evolve it to a Alakazam as I have no one to trade with, and this is Pokemon FireRed. But to the original question, which stats?

EDIT: Also "darn" to Mew being banned. Mew is one of the Pokemon I've wanted to train the most, and I"m pretty sure its stats are nothing significant. At least, I'm pretty sure I remember a Pokemon such as Mewtwo being generally stronger, unless it's because Mew can learn any TM/HM.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Just captured my first Shiny Pokemon while EV training my SP ATK - A Shiny Gastly, which is exactly what I said I was looking for in one of my last posts in this thread. Heh, I was watching TV and playing at the same time, so I'm lucky I was looking at the screen at the time. Also lucky it was a low level, which only took about 4 or 5 Ultra Balls. I kinda wish it were red or something since it doesn't look too noticable, but oh well.

EDIT: First shiny aside from Red Gyarados.

Which also brings up a few questions:
1. Is there a list out there that tells what colors each shiny pokemon is like? I know Wikipedia used to have it before they merged all of the Pokemon onto single pages.

2. How would one go about getting shiny Charmanders, Squirtles, etc if they're all starter Pokemon and not wild? I just saw a pic of a Shiny Charizard, and I want it.

3. Similar to #2, how would one go about getting something such as a Shiny Ho-Oh or Mewtwo? Constantly walking up to it and starting the battle, or is it determined whether it be shiny or not the moment you first start your file?

Bleh. It turns out my Gastly might have bad IVs. Even though it's still a low level, thus calcs are less accurate, I did notice it had less Sp Atk than the other Gastly's I've caught. >_<

Just how much of a difference do IVs make? I really want to train this Shiny Gastly when Platinum comes out, but I don't want to train it if it will be weak. :x

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

I was under the impression that they had another affect, though. If, for example, your Attack IV is 28, doesn't that add 28 to your attack power? [At level 100.] Or am I thinking of something else?
That's also along the lines of what I was thinking. I wouldn't think IV's are limited to one attack in the game.

Yeah, it helped a lot. Thanks.

It seems EVs are still more important. A calc said my Gastly has an IV of 0-6. But it's only level 16, so hopefully it's more near 10-15. Unless I find someone else with a better Shiny, I might just stick with this one. 20 Points is a big difference, but it's not like having an IV of 31 is common anyway.

I'm also looking for a non-hacked Shiny Machop. If anyone has one and isn't thinking about trading it for a while, I'll probably want to give you something for it when Platinum comes out. Though I'm not sure what can evenly match that trade unless I come across another shiny.

I've wanted a (shiny) Mew too, but it seems only hacked ones are available from what I can find out. Would a hacked mew with average IVs in everything be looked down upon? I'm getting desperate.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

So, I'm kinda regretting evolving my Pikachu into Raichu when I learned Pikachu can have a Light Ball, which doubles its Special Attack. Is that not insane? Here's a question. Does it double SP ATK even if the SP ATK is already at its max (255)?

EDIT: And another question. Let's say Articuno is holding Macho Brace (item which doubles EVs gained) and Raichu is holding EXP Share and I kill a Haunter, which gives 2 SP ATK EVs. Because of Macho Brace, Haunter gets 4 EVs. How about Raichu? Does it also gained 4 EVs or just 2?

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Thanks a lot. Sheesh, I feel like such a noob with all of my questions.

Anyway, I've encountered a problem. My Vaporeon is level 70, I EV trained it in SP ATK, and it gains +3 SP ATK per level. Problem: It's at 220 SP ATK now. Meaning, it will hit the max SP ATK before Level 100. Luckily this is only FireRed and not Platinum, nor is Vaporeon going to be in my main Platinum team.
My original solution to this was: "No problem. When I get Platinum, I just won't EV train until Level 90 or so.
About 5 seconds later I knew what was wrong in what I said. How am I going to get to level 90ish without gaining EVs? Unless I Rare Candy hack, no can do. Are there any sites out there that give a general idea what a Pokemon's stats will be at Level 100 with no EVs? I used to have a Guidebook for Gold/Silver I believe that had such a thing, though I lost it, and I'm unsure if they've changed any of the formula's in stats for a Pokemon since Gold. I know stats were changed from R/B -> Y -> G/S. So yeah, just wondering if one exists online so I can be sure how many EVs I should put into what.

Slow down there. 255 isn't the absolute maximum Sp. Atk. for any Pokemon, 999 is (even though it's impossible to reach via legal means). As for good websites with statistics on each Pokemon, Serebii.net and Marriland.com are decent places to start.
Gosh, I forgot the cap was 999. I wonder where I got 255 from... I probably mixed up EVs with stats for some reason.

EDIT: I kinda got EVs and stats mixed up, disregard my last post I guess. I thought the cap of the points itself was also 255 for some odd reason. ._.;;

How ya doing, buddy?

How many people are planning on getting Platinum anyway? Not sure if the idea of playing those an entire game again appeals to most people, which is why I didn't buy Diamond/Pearl. Of course that might make me a little less knowledgable, but hopefully I'll be fine.

I'm also getting desperate in terms of Mew hunting.

I was thinking of using this technique to get a semi-legit Mew, though I can't find my Red/Blue/Yellow, so I dunno if buying a new one is worth it when I can just buy a device to get Mew like that, though getting a hacked Pokemon... dunno how that'll look, even if I give it the same IVs as my starter (assuming that's possible). Of course, getting a legit Mew will be a ton easier if that Pokemon Ranch comes out before platinum.

Though I'm unsure what to train it in. I mean, it's completely even in everything, so it's pretty much good for any build. Though eliminate atk since my Mew probably won't have many, if any, physical attacks. Eliminate HP probably too since it won't have such a large amount of that. I was leaning toward speed and SP ATK, though most of my Pokemon seem to be going with a Speed + ATK/SP ATK combo. I'm still not convinced how much that extra defense will give me.

How ya doing, buddy?

That'd be amazing if we could trade when Platinum is out. Is there anything in particular you're looking for in return?

Darn to the R/B/Y/G/S/C bit, though. At least it's good to know so I don't waste time trying to get it.

Biggest problem is I don't even have Diamond/Pearl yet, I was just waiting for Platinum. I've been playing FireRed this whole time. Small chance I'll get Diamond, though I'm not sure if getting it is worth it if Platinum is coming out soon. Think you'll still have your Mew in a few months?

EDIT: Nevermind, I'll be getting Diamond within a week. Hopefully that's not too long of a wait, assuming I can trade online early in the game.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Is there any Move Deleter in Diamond/Pearl? I seem to have misplaced my Ruby, so that kinda sucks. I dislike how many of the HMs in games are so useless, and can't be forgotton.
