You'd be in the minority. And surely, those games' shortcomings had nothing to do with the move to 3d.

Any word on who's writing the soundtrack?

I mean, if Nobuo's not working for Squeenix anymore, can they really use his compositions from the original?

They'll probably get Kumi Tanioka or one of Squeenix's other big shots (PLEASE NOT SAKIMOTO) to do it.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Calm down dude.

They're almost certain to tie it into the gameplay somehow. I.E. quests that can only be finished through the use of WFC.

I got the game today. I have not played extensively yet. A few gripes though.

-High encounter rate. But seriously, it's a 1990 RPG, what do you want.

-Lots and LOTS of times where the top screen is blank. There's just no excuse for it in battles, where they should've devoted the entire top screen to the battle graphics and the bottom screen to health/mp/your battle choices. This seriously seriously seriously infuriates me. Other times are more excusable but still dumbfounding; if you're in an area without a map the top screen is blank. What?!

With these exceptions it seems to be standard Final Fantasy fare. I look forward to playing more... even though I'm sorely disappointed in the poor use of the dual screens.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Try not to spoil anything, because I'm still not that far yet - where do you have to go to get Mognet started?

Hi, I'm the L button, nice to meet you.

You're flat-out wrong, this game is beautiful for the DS. In fact thanks to the art style I'd say it's beautiful to begin with. But I'm just waiting for some nasty bosses and summons to show up before I can make that claim officially.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

I agree about the opening movie, all though it's unfortunate that they gave us a 5 minute intro and then not a single FMV for the rest of the game.

How ya doing, buddy?

Metroid Prime: Hunters would like a word with you.

FMV intro just as long, and FMV's in between each level. Mind you, that game was also a sizable, fully 3D FPS.

It's unfortunate... I really like this game, but it could've been a DS killer app if they weren't so lazy. The only forseeable reason why using FMV's in-game would be a bad idea is because of the variable jobs... I would've just had the FMV's use the freelancer class. And I can think of a thousand better ways to use the top screen. For example I think all the 3d stuff should've remained on the top screen for the entire game, with the touch screen being the menu the whole time. I can deal without analog control, but I can't fucking deal with having to press a button to go to the menu.

Also, Asa, I'm fairly confident you're not that far into the game.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

I would say about 30-40 hours. I'm about 15 hours in and I just got to the third crystal. Judging by the way Final Fantasy 5 was structured, this puts me about 40-50% of the way thorugh the game.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

The songs are the same arrangement, they just sound like a 28kbps MP3 version of the songs on the CD. The music was another thing I felt could've been done much better. Not that I dislike the compositions, because they're actually pretty good. However, after playing a game like Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, which had almost CD-quality recording on the DS hardware, it's very hard to justify having such low-quality sounds playing in a FF game.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Okay so I'm at the last dungeon but I haven't heard anything about this mognet sidequest. Someone sum it up for me please. I'll post my friend code momentarily.

On another note, this game's soundtrack fails hard. The original FF3 had the same vibrant level of variety as every other FF soundtrack before and after it did, but the remake turned every song into "omg, we're in a medieval ____." Take for instance the boss music, which in the original was very clearly a fast rock tune, but when redone all the drumset stuff was removed and everything is played by string ensemble and trumpet patches. Yawn.

I honestly can't wait to beat this game, because it's so fucking terrible and yet I cannot bring myself to stop playing it.

Protip: Why are you using a freelancer.

Note the lack of question mark.

No, what I meant by leaving out the question mark, is that there is no reason you should use a freelancer.

Your freelancer is only strong because when you switch to a new job you need to gain job levels to have stats. Having a freelancer is essentially a wasted slot on your team.
