Fundubbing - is this an international thing?

Fundubs - if you never heard about them, technically it´s like a commercial dub of foreign shows. Instead of trying to stay as close to the original dialogue as possible, fundubs are made by fans that completely rewrite the dialogue in a funny way.

I know there some popular projects in Germany - a land where traditionally almost every foreign show is dubbed. But is this a local phenomenon or are there fundubs in many countries? What about countries where dubbing is not common?

Yes - fundubs are intended to tell another story. Most are crap - people cursing all the time, making fun about drugs and sex including rape, yuck. o_O

But a selected few are actually pretty good.
