I literally can't believe what I'm seeing, this is a dream come true and the biggest hype for a video game I've ever seen.

At first glance I liked this, but now I'm not too sure if I like it as much. I just hope there's not one character to play, but multiple like in previous games. I don't want this to be final fantasy: neo returns or anything like FFx-2, this reminds me of that. I like the female main lead character, but I do not want any devil may cry type action. I would be happy even if they went back to the normal turn/atb type fighting with improved graphics, speed, and system.

I know they said they will have a playable demo out for this game by the end of the year, but do you think they will have a gameplay video at the SE party?

I love the art. Reminds me of FFVIII which is my 2nd favorite final fantasy game.

He kind of looks like Seifer, and damn it they should just remake FFVIII.
For some reason he reminded me of Zell. But now, also Seifer.

That's bullshit I think. Square Enix thinks with their money instead of loyalty, which is now the norm sadly these days. Unfortunate I think. Meh whatever.
CRYING ABOUT FFXIII NOT BEING EXCLUSIVE TO PS3?!!!!!

ok.

It's either Sony pays enough to Square for exclusive rights, or Square goes multi-platform, which is the smarter thing to do.

I don't know about you guys, but I was fine with FFXII's and the PS1 era of FF's. Yeah linear but I guess it worked for me. I did like exploring in XII, however each game pretty much has a direct path anyways.

I have been able to stream movies to my TV for 15 years, it's called pay-per-view

You do realize Microsoft didn't buy Square-Enix, right? S-E came to an agreement with Microsoft. Sure, knowing them it's entirely likely it included a giant box of cash, but if S-E was as loyal to Sony as fanboys assumed they were, they could've easily said no! It's not like S-E hasn't been publishing games on every console made in the past 10 years or so anyway.

Yes. Most people will release their game in a manner that provides them the most possible profit. Square Enix does not exist to enrich the world with art, they exist to make money. Period.
Thank you for shutting that member up.

I've been a huge fan of FF for a good 15 years now. I was happy with Square's move to PS and I am happy now about Xbox.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Quote:
August 3, 2008 - Square Enix fans were thrilled to enter the DKΣ3713 Private Party and check out ten of the company's most anticipated titles. However, Tetsuya Nomura had an extra surprise for attendees at the event – a behind the scenes documentary filmed at the Square Enix internal studio that was only completed yesterday by Nomura himself at 8:40 in the morning. What seemed rather apparent from the start of the documentary was that Nomura's filming was a surprise to everyone – many of the designers and character artists seemed shocked that he was taping at all, and were nervous about some of the elements being shown, including some character designs and concept art of Final Fantasy XIII versus the game translation. There was even some gameplay shown of Final Fantasy 13 which highlighted the size and scale of the world.

While this went on for a minute or two, the documentary soon shifted over to early development footage of Final Fantasy Versus XIII, which showed the main character running around through different environments. It also showed off a sequence that was included within the trailer montage of the young king climbing a staircase, although the trailer paused and the camera was manipulated in real time with a mouse. The developers zoomed out and spun around the character, focusing on the lighting on his face and the detail within the environment. This, and a few other sections within the trailer montage was shown in-engine in real time, and was emphasized by the development team that it wasn't CG at all.

In fact, the next sequence was a round table style discussion with Motomu Toriyama, Hajime Tabata and others, where they discussed elements of Final Fantasy XIII. The inclusion of Versus XIII was specifically done to highlight that the development on the game was real, as the team had read numerous rumors online that stated that the game didn't exist. The developers also wanted to make a specific point about how Final Fantasy XIII is still being developed on the PS3 first, even with the recent announcement of the game crossing over to the Xbox 360. Apparently, the team is focusing on the PS3 as the main development platform, and will release the game in Japan first. The North American and European versions of Final Fantasy XIII on the PS3 will be held back until the 360 version is done so a simultaneous release can be made.

The designers also made a point to debunk the Internet rumor of Final Fantasy XIII coming to the PC, a rumor they claimed was made from a misunderstood comment from E3 this year. Nomura mentioned that he was trying to explain that he develops his games on a PC instead of indicating that Final Fantasy would be coming to a PC.

From there, the room of designers talked about the upcoming demo of Final Fantasy XIII, which will be included on the Blu-Ray disc of Final Fantasy VII Advent Children Complete. They aren't sure exactly which section of the game will be included on the disc, and they're still deciding what areas will be included for the demo itself, but it should be a large bonus for the disc. Nomura and his team also pointed out that while development on Final Fantasy XIII is fully underway, there are still a number of elements that need to be worked on, such as some characters that haven't been approved of yet, and other gameplay features. They also mentioned that while they're casting voice actors for the game's roles, they haven't made a decision yet, although they think that TGS might be the first time that such an announcement would be made.

Didn't show anything new? Did you even watch the trailer? Fails due to lack of Chocobo guy? yeah ok, you seem like the typical FFXII hater.

It had new real time battles.

If I'm not mistaken that hadn't been shown like that before.

Actually i could care less about anything square makes except FF. I hate all the FFVII sidestory shit and just about all the other stuff they make is semi decent.

Yeah the opening is very poor and I highly dislike the Irish accent (or whatever it is) of the dark haired woman at the end.

This was the most anticipated game of all time for me. Note I've been playing Final Fantasy ever since FF 2 /4 was released... when I was 7 years old.

This is easily the most disappointing game of the series for me.

The first 25 hours (most of the game) you are walking in a straight line.

Walk > battle > cutscene > boss battle > cutscene. repeat.

No castles, no towns, no areas to explore. No NPC's to talk to really till about 18 hrs in at Nautilus. And even when you get there, it's still just a straight path through the town.

No mini games or side quests. It just seems the side quests are the hunts at the end of the game and that's it.

The crystarium system is just a copy of the Sphere Grid but just looks nicer.

In my opinion Square really fucked this game over. It could have been so much more. I can't imagine this game being what the fans wanted. I just want to finish the game so I can put it up on eBay. But I'll post a full review after I complete the game, which should be in a day or two. I'm about 27-28 hours into the game.

Too bad this game sends you in a straight line for 95% percent of the game and the only thing extra to do is fight optional bosses. No extra dungeons, no mini games. Nearly no puzzles.

And other Final Fantasy's may be linear, but in no way do they send you in a straight corridor. Many of the areas are open. You have castles and dungeons to actually walk through with different rooms and areas to navigate through to find treasure or do other things.

-----
Other Final Fantasy games have:

Final Fantasy IV: The Land of Summons, Excalibur sidequest. Castles and towns to visit with many different rooms / areas. Abandoned Eblan castle. You have the first world map, the underground, and the moon.

Final Fantasy V: Multiple extra, hidden areas to explore. Optional bosses and many secret items. Underwater Area and the void / dark world.

Final Fantasy VI: Narshe, the first city is pretty massive. The last half of the game is filled with extra side quests and dungeons. Hidden items and areas are all over the game. World of Balance, World of Ruin. The Dream Stooges, Phoenix Cave, Fanatics Tower.

Final Fantasy VII: Gold Chocobo quest, secret characters, hidden areas. Multiple sidequests and mini games. Extra dungeons as well. The city of Midgar has more exploration than FF13. Ancient Forest, Vincents story and Lucretias Cave.

Final Fantasy VIII: Hidden summons and dungeons. Balamb Garden is the first area but is pretty big. Card game. World Map with so many areas to explore. Esthar.

Final Fantasy IX: Once again, a world map with places like towns, castles and dungeons to actually explore.
------

This game is battles and cut scenes. That's it. If you're okay with a point a to point b game. Then this game is for you. This game actually makes me appreciate FF12 a lot more.

I don't know why people are trying to justify the linearity of the game. In this game you visit two towns. Palumpolum and Nautilus. No exploring, No shops. No rooms or places to visit. Nothing. You just walk straight through each city.

The games music is great, characters are good, story is great as well. But the experience was not even close to what I was expecting or looking for. It was the first Final Fantasy game I was ever disappointed with. ( didn't bother with x-2)

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

Destructoid - Final Fantasy XIII 'the biggest swindle in history'

I just saw this posted on Destructiod.... haha. I think it's a bit harsh obviously... but my honest score for this game is a 6 or 7 / 10.

Anyways I've already sold the game along with the FFIV beta code and made nearly all the $ that I spent on it.

Jam it back in, in the dark.
