Street Fighter II : Why? Why not Super Street Fighter II New Challengers?
Because Capcom is dumb, they want you to buy their crappy collections which ironically aren't available on a Nintendo system. They did this same thing with X-Box Live Arcade.

If they did put Shining Force III on virtual console. I wouldn't care unless they gave us part 2 and 3 which we were gyped on originally. I know Saturn sales were low but giving us what is basicly 1/3 of a game is just ridiculess.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

You know, it's interesting... people DO get more excited about RPG's on the VC than anything else. Shadow says it's because of the price of the original carts these days, but I think it's gotta be something else because I don't try to buy the originals and I'm still excited about them.
Odd. It's not like I don't enjoy Super Mario Bros... but I'd just rather play Super Mario RPG. Nostalgia?
In my case, it just felt like RPGs had more replay value. They were the only games back then that really had any storyline. Sure, Mario games had story, but it wasn't very descriptive. Just beat up bad guys and save the princess. Nowadays even action games have a pretty well laid out storyline compared to back then.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Why do people want to buy games that have already been rereleased in another format?
A. Nintendo Fans who refuse to buy a system that's not made by Nintendo.
B. Some of us don't like handhelds.

I fall under B and no longer have a working NES or SNES. I never had a Genesis. Sure I got all the Final Fantasies, Ogre Battle, and Chrono Trigger on PS1, but that doesn't cover a ton of other games I wanted like Breath of Fire and Shining Force. Also Secret of Mana has NEVER been remade to my knowledge. There are plenty more games I want, but I'm not gonna list all of them cause it would take too long.

I don't feel like buying a TG16 on Ebay, hoping the controllers aren't completely worn out and worthless, and hooking it up through an RF adapter just to play Atomic Robo Kid: TG-16: Atomic Robokid (This is the TG16 game I'm waiting for.)

For a fee of only $5, it's worth it for me for the convenience of being able to play SMB2 on the Wii which I always have hooked up, vs. having to hook up my old NES even though I own one and also the SMB2 cartridge. It's cheaper than buying a new 72-pin connector and opening the NES and installing it so that the screen doesn't flash.

Where I do agree with the argument against VC games is if people are buying a ton of them, like 20 or more VC games. Then, it would probably be cheaper in the long run to get the actual console + games off Ebay. But then, you still need to have the console hooked up, through the right connectors, to play the game.

In reality, I would rather emulate most games rather than mess with VC, but for a few classics I would play very often, such as SMB2, it's nice to have the option.
He said rereleased. I think he ment like SNES games that were ported to PS1 or handhelds. Not the actual originals.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Well I don't know why he thinks certain things like Square having their own channel for their good SNES games or whatever but classics like Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana still hold up very well to today's games and could easily be remade or repackaged and still make a good deal of money. Square did shut down the 3D Chrono Trigger fan remake a while back so it doesn't seem like they're quite through milking the series even though they have not given a clear indication of doing so. The Seiken Densetsu series is always a troubling one. Although Sword was a remake of Final Fantasy Adventure there has been no remake or port of the meat and bones of the series which is Secret. It's just another one of those lingering IPs that Square seems to be sitting on. With FF4 being remade it wouldn't surprise me if Square decides that the formula would work with the rest of its popular past titles. So those things make me believe too that Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana and other games they've ported/remade to the DS or GBA might never make Virtual Console in fear that it would take away sales of ports/remakes out in the current market. I suppose they don't expect people to buy the original on VC and remakes on DS/PSP to get a taste of two different yet similar experiences. Their loss I guess but it is just them being greedy.
Fixed. Before anyone jumps down my throat about how all companies are out to make profit. I understand that. But there is a difference between trying to make profit and being greedy jerks.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

So releasing it on VC wouldn't be being greedy?
Releasing it on VC for $5 or $8 is alot less greedy then porting the game to yet another system and charging $30+ for it. Which is essentially why Square is being so slow to contribute anything. They may not say it, but considering how many ports and remakes they put out it's horribly obvious.

You do realize the FF4 game he's talking about isn't a direct port. They're actually making changes and redoing quite a bit of graphics and everything.

Why the hell are we even arguing over games that you could have been emulating on your PC for the past ten years, anyway?
Yeah they're remaking it, very soon after just porting it to the GBA and having ported it to the PS1 before that. My point is they're avoiding releasing games on the VC solely because of the fact that they MIGHT remake them, regardless of whether they currently have plans to or not. I only use PC emulation as a last resort, I want to play games on my TV. I want Dragon Warrior 1-4 and Secret of Mana on VC but Square Enix probably won't put them on there because they're not a virtual unknown like Actraiser.

sprout, I wasn't bitching about the lack of update to the first post, I was just wondering if things like SMRPG had been announced somewhere.
I'm pretty sure Nintendo confirmed it before the Wii was even released. Why it's not out yet, I don't know.

Why would they have a limited edition virtual download. That's just dumb.
Probably the same line of thinking that is still keeping all but handheld games, region coded.

Except not, because that's done for a reason. Remember the PSP? Remember Lik-Sang?
But if I remember correctly, the main reason that happened was because some country was short on PSPs and the games aren't region coded, meaning you can play imports regardless of what country the PSP is from. I've never tried myself but I heard Nintendo's handhelds have always been that way. Why not console games? It would be nice to be able to play games that companies don't feel worth releasing here without modding a system or importing another version of a system you already have.

Heck I think stuff like that is why most DVD players can play any region code now and I'm pretty sure HD DVD and Blue Ray aren't region coded.

Anyhow, I shouldn't have started this cause we're gonna get way off topic.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

God I fucking love how long it takes for nintendo to send out an email stating the games that are out for the VC...I got the one, TODAY, for LAST WEEK! ><
Yeah, I don't know what's worse. That or the fact that their answer to their forum being gone is "Make your own forum!"

No, I didn't notice that I didn't post last week, on the 22nd.
Damn, I don't know how I didn't notice that. I think when I saw you quoting, I had assumed it was something earlier in the thread.

I remember having lots of fun playing Bubble Bobble. That was the only video game I could get my mom to play when I was a kid.

The only reason I can conclude why people hate Secret of Evermore would be that it is the scapegoat for Seiken Densetsu 3 never making it over to the states. That's about it.
While I would have loved to have Seiken Densetsu 3, that wasn't why I hated Secret of Evermore at least. I hated it because it was single player and the multiplayer is part of what I loved about Secret of Mana. It was a RPG I could actually play with my friends.

Virtual Console (US) for 8-18-08:

Mega Man(NES) - 500 Wii Points
Neo Turf Masters(Neo Geo) - 900 Wii Points

I know Mega Man is already available in a collection, but I'm still surprised it took them this long to add it. I have no idea what the other game is. Some golf game apparently.

Funny thing is these will probably be the first games I've considered downloading since River City Ransom. I've just had Wii points sitting there who knows how long. Not that I'm in a particular hurry to spend them with the number of games I've gotten piled up I need to play.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Question: Can you play an SNES vc game with the gc controller?
Most of them you actually have to use a gamecube controller or the classic controller because the regular Wii controller doesn't have enough buttons.

YES! The only games I really want that they haven't released now are Secret of Mana and Breath of Fire 1.

... You forgot Earthbound.
I said what I want, not what you want. While I'm sure it's a great game, I've actually never played Earthbound. It is kinda ironic though, since they keep sticking the characters in Smash Bros.
