I once beat it without losing a life by managing to make it all the way there as a zombie. Your zombie form's bomb has a death ray that does MASSIVE damage. I can't remember if those balls affect you or not. I might've killed him too fast for him to do it.
But yeah, I think I pulled off beating that thing without dying only once or twice, having played it through in the arcade multiple times.
I always liked fighting Sigma in Mega Man X2, where he whips out the claws. He moves almost constantly, and you have to as well if you want to beat him. He's not that hard for me, but the fast action is fun enough for me that I enjoy it every time.
