I don't think I've ever had this happen with a game I still consider a notable one. I once lost a TMNT Game Boy game to someone, but it's nothing I cry about. Meh.
Though..my acquisition of a Gamecube was the result of something like this. Some years back my older brother was visiting home and brought with him a Gamecube with Metroid Prime. He let me borrow it and a couple of months later told me that for a Christmas present I could keep the Gamecube. It wasn't until some months after that he told me that the Gamecube originally belonged to a roommate of his.
Supposedly this guy was a real jerk and my brother took the cube and gave it to me because the guy was such an ass. Oh well, by the time I found out there wasn't much that could be done about it.
