Dubbing ends up being a problem in any video, whether it be anime, movie, cartoon, whatever. The problem comes with trying to synchronize the dialogue with the lip movements; the dialogue is messed with in order to make the visuals more realistic, but the actual dialogue often ends up being sacrificed.
I've seen some good dubs, but I find more often than not that dubbing often ends up taking important lines of dialogue, or screwing with them to the point where they don't convey the same meaning or emotion.
Also, there is the problem with dumbing down the language for kids. It's pretty much one step further than replacing all swearwords in a movie when it's aired on TV, except the scene itself is interpreted in a different way. That's why I often prefer subtitles.
Then again, there have been a couple of animes that I have seen the dubbing first, and then I have a hard time getting used to the Japanese voices.

Jam it back in, in the dark.
