This just in: Slash will SUCK >=o
Well... maybe, maybe not. Only time will tell. My predictions / thoughts: Eddie - Will still be in the top tier, as he can still lockdown the opponent from almost anywhere on the screen, and hold them in pressure for a fairly long time (even longer if you have meter for Drill FRC). He still has combos to unblockable which now take ~50-60% health off the opponent, in some cases without even requiring a complete Eddie gauge, While it's true this is nothing compared to his previous incarnations, the fact that most other characters can't do much damaage in Slash will end up being his saving grace. Slayer - Less BDC time = far less useful BDC Mappa, but not much else. BDC j.P still works well as AA, FDC Bite still works from what I've seen. New Mappa Feint is funny, as you can even use it to cancel recovery ala Mist Cancel up close. Not as great as before, but he's still decent. Millia - Has been toned down considerably, no longer in the top or even near it, now. No knockdown from aircombos or ground throw hurts her alot, as the opportunities for Disc mixup are now very few. Actual aircombo damage is slightly higher, but you now have a very tough time to actually get someone into said aircombo. Add this to her weak, low-priority normal attacks and you have the makings of a lower-tier character. Sol - The fact that this guy can be considered the best or one of the best really says alot about this game. He still can't force damage well, as he really only has his command grab for that. Sol relies on the opponent making a mistake, and scoring damage off of Counter Hits mainly. I believe his Bandit Revolver mixup is now gone (after connected BR - running jump to either low AD or land 2K). BR seems to recover a bit later due to the second hit being a bit later than in #Reload. So, less mixup, far less damage from combos, a decent new move... and somehow Sol ends up being one of the best in Slash? Dizzy - Yay, Dizzy sucks. Considered by some to be the absolute worst character in the game, as she now takes insanely high damage and has lost much of what made her good in #Reload. Her broken low dust (2D) has been weakened in that it's no longer cancellable to any special. So no more 2D XX Fish lol FTW. The fish also disappears if you hit Dizzy, which is nice. Her health is so low that it only takes something like 6 Volcanic Vipers to kill her now - awesome stuff indeed. I suppose GGXX Slash is fairly 'balanced' at this point. But Capcom Fighting Jam was also quite 'balanced', but look where that got it. ![]() Jam it back in, in the dark. |
www.dustloop.com is the place to go for GGXX Slash info.
Slash currently includes: - New Mission Mode - EX character versions - #Reload character versions(!) - 20 different colour selections per character - Colour Edit (unconfirmed) - NO new Story Mode (Click for Official Site) Arcade mode is the same as XX and #R, except that Order-Sol is the new boss. He's powered up in this version, much like I-No is in her final boss form. There's new character ending art upon beating the game, as well. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
In the beta versions of Slash, Chipp was apparently very, very good, considered to be in the top tier by those who played it. In the final Slash version, he is ranked exactly around mid-mid-tier as you put it. His defense is the same as always, but he actually doesn't suffer too much from it anymore due to the lack of mega damaging combos as was the case in #Reload..
Also, Chipp gets better options overall from things like Counter Hit j.D (which causes ground bounce) as well as his new Dust teleport. His combos still do the same damage, which is considered good by Slash terms, so that's also in his favour. And his general pokes are as usual, very good. SuperDK - Ky still has VT loop, though it's a bit less practical now I've heard, due to new combos possible by his Jump Cancellable 2H. I don't know exact specifics but I believe a general combos is: (after launching) 5S(close), Greed Sever, 5S(c) tap up for Jump Install, 2H, sj.S-P-S, sdj.S-H, Heavy Vapour Thrust. Ky can also spam slow Stun Edge in the corner as a lockdown. ;_; This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
It's not a matter of you being stupid enough to fall for it, it's a matter of you being able to get out of the corner safely (as you can see, just jumping out is not an option).
Some characters can have problems dealing with this as they may not have a quick longer-ranged move that hits Ky, or be able to avoid it. And even if they do have a solution, Ky is still at a major advantage after his fireball is blocked; he doesn't have to throw another one. He can just block or react and punish you accordingly. ![]() Here's a casual vid of me trying out Slash Ky against a friend's Dizzy. The whole room was cracking up on many an occasion due to Ky silliness. ![]() I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
chato, keep in mind that they Ky corner spam is not really too great. There's some practicality, but it was just done for flash in those vids. Most characters can just Instant Block and jump out, and others can go under, reflect it, nullify it with own projectile, use an invincible move (ie. 6P), or what have you.
ArcI, you mean this? ='D I was speaking idiomatically. |
Grawl wins for Best Post in Thread, with no fewer than 3 Millia images.
Still playing Slash here, but with less enthusiasm since people are not so into it these days over here. I'd post more over here but dustloop.com covers all the GG one can ever need so it's easy to forget about poor GFF. If anyone ever passes by, I'm known as 'Teyah' over there. Mostly just post in the Millia forum and the local boards, but I do have some recent match vids over there as well in the media section if you want to see how the locals play in these parts. In other news, that crazy Llama and his team managed to place 2nd in Evo West and guaranteed himself a top seeding in the Evolution 2006 tournament! (For those who don't know, Evolution is the largest fighting game tournament in North America). Congrats! What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
