I've had quite a few pets die on me actually.
In the past we've had 3 dogs - a cocker spaniel, a golden retriever, and a german shepard. The spaniel died rather violently in the boarding hospital while we were away for a couple days. I'm sure it was the stress at his age of 14 that did him in. The vet tried performing heorics which did nothing but complicate the process.
My second dog, the Retriever, contracted bone cancer at around 2.5 years old. By the time we had him put down, he had a tumor nearly the size of a football on his leg. It was an in-house euthenasia that I was present for, and was one of the sadest things I've had to sit through.
2 days later, my dad's coworker gave him their 1 year old german shepard, because they couldn't keep her. Apparently, the dog was an absolute skitzo. Within a year she got out of the house an bit a pregnant woman walking down the street. She was put down a week later.
Besides dogs, I've had 6 hamsters, all of which died differently (broken limb, poisening, suffocation, strangling, old age, and anaphalactic shock). We've had a mouse, which was always prone to disease or parasite and probably died from it. We've had 4 gerbils - bought the mother and she had 3 babies. The first baby died a while later of paralysis, the rest of age or some other mysterious cause. We have a 5th gerbil now that has suffered a stroke, but keeps on trucking. And we've had numerous fish that came and went.
I think that sums up everything. We currently have a Labrador Retriever, gerbil, and a miniature rabbit.
Jam it back in, in the dark.
