Are there gangs in your area?

The last time I heard anything about gangs was freshman year of high school and that was 7 years ago. And today was the first time I heard someone talk about a gang. Actually, he claimed to be a gang member.. he's the story:

I live in an urban city and the neighborhood is fairly quiet. Maybe a crime chase once or twice since the past 5 years. But today on my way home from classes a guy got on the bus. There were about 10 people on the bus so there was plenty of room but he sits next to me and starts talking to me while nudging me lightly. ["WTF is this guy doing? He has to sit next to me on the bus when there's so much room? and why is he bumping me?" God damn gay psycho] I was carrying my textbooks all day so I didn't feel like changing my seat. My stop was about 15 blocks so I decided to wait it out. Anyway, he asked me if I attended a certain high school. I told him, "No". Then he asked a high schooler sitting near by. He must've asked the question to us about 4 times. Then goes to say he has "beef" with kids from that school. [beef, now I haven't heard that term in years. Do high schoolers still use that term?] Anyhow, he then says he's from the bloods crypts or something like that. I asked him to repeat what he said because he was speaking "gangster" or "thugish" basically it was improper english. He asks me if I want to join.. I reply, "No.." He goes on talking about the benefit [that's right, not plural.. singular] if I join. He said I'd get a red car and then holds out one hand and pretends to drive. Then he repeats the same thing saying I'll get a red car... and does the one hand driving thing.. again.... [Hmmm... I should pretend that I didn't know english. He looks like an idiot and I don't want to hear him talk to me.] Next he talks to the high schooler who is trying his best to ignore him. The high school kid, about 14 or 15 considering the time he got out of school and his looks, was getting spooked so he stood up and walked towards the front of the bus where the driver was. The "gang" member then looked at me and asked me if I wanted to rob him. "You and me, we can take him on." [Ok, if he was in a gang I don't think he would've asked me for assistance.] I decline his offer and he starts asking me why and then asks me if I am a college student. I tell him that I am. Then he says how he's going to Iraq next year for the war and after that he's coming back and going to Harvard. [Yeah.... Harvard..... you..... try picture books first you moron!] He then gets off the bus and thinks we're "cool"... Ok, so he isn't in a gang, just a weird ass but this really did happen... I wish I had some better form of entertainment on the way home.

So this...... is a gang???. I think.. in my area... anyone else??

He must've been important because he didn't have a red car -- he had a public bus!

yeah, I forgot to say that he didn't pay his fair. He most likely lied to the driver and said he was a high school student and lost his card.

I told my sister and she couldn't stop laughing. We don't know much about those gangs but she told me that they're black people gangs but the dude wasn't black. I have no clue what nationality he is but he has light skin and is most surely not black. Another thing I forgot about the bloods gang is they wear red... I think the collar of his shirt was red... but that's about it... way to represent!! Another funny thing was he was jumping roles. First he says he's a thug, then he's gonna do army and then go to Harvard. I live in New York btw.
