Prey

http://www.prey.com/

Quote:
Prey tells the story of Tommy, a Cherokee garage mechanic stuck on a reservation going nowhere. Abducted along with his people to a menacing mothership orbiting Earth, he sets out to save himself and his girlfriend and eventually his planet.

In Prey, players enter a living spaceship which enslaves alien races and devours humans for lunch. A unique twist on the first person shooter genre, Prey features such innovations as the ability to walk on walls, manipulate gravity and perform a "spirit walk" by leaving your physical body behind. Designed by Human Head and brought to Xbox 360 by Venom Games (under the direction of 3D Realms), Prey features full online support for up to eight players, utilizing the game's play innovations for unique multiplayer experiences.
PC Demo.

I just played this game and... wow... it rocks. The game really fucks with your head by using portals and playing around with gravity. The spirit aspect is a nice feature too.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Since it's okay to split threads now, I'll just spam this one.

Game is out for PC, soundtrack is out, downloading the game now. I'll cry tears of joy. Soundtrack rocks, at least. 'Pushing Towards Fate' is a great track.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Cable internet?

I think I'm at the end of the game, btw =p

edit: found the last gun, played for a total of 4.5 hours - I heard the game is pretty short, with people reporting a playtime of only 5 hours (and to be bashed by other people for not telling the truth), so who knows.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

First off, if you played the demo you know what the whole game is like. More enemies are thrown at you later, and you get more weapons, but if you've been following this game, since it's been announced(when was that? Like 10 years ago?) then you've seen everything. I won't spoil it for those who haven't though.
The demo is just the tip of the iceberg. There are some really good puzzles in there involving gravity (the Complex has a few) that aren't show before. Sure, it's not mindblowing, but what shooter is nowadays?

Quote:
Secondly I beat this game on my first play-through in five hours. FIVE HOURS. I don’t know, maybe I’m really good at video games, but you guys tell me if it’s that short for everyone else.
Shooters are always on the short side. Luckily there's multiplayer, which rocks.

Quote:
The game is very easy and this is because of that whole spirit resurrection thing, you basically just kill some stupid flying bird things and you come back to life. At first this seems cool, but it will become annoying over time.
'stupid flying bird things' are called spirits. Also, I'm pretty sure you can disable this if you think it's too easy. I kind of like it. It saves me from loading after loading when I die, plus I don't need to quicksave anymore.

Quote:
The gunfights pretty much stay the same as you will be fighting those same enemies you encountered in the demo. You will eventual get into a flying type vehicle, which is simple average, it’s not great, but it doesn’t suck. The puzzles are all easy and nearly every single one relies on you going into your spirit form, and pressing a button that your human body can’t get too, and then continue. There are a few occasions where you will have to do something different, and they do get more difficult but it still feels very repetitive.
Perhaps a higher variety of enemies would make the game more appealing yes. Fighting Hunters does get boring. However, some puzzles are pretty good and got me stuck for a few minutes.

Quote:
I thought the story was pretty good, it kept me engaged throughout the whole game, and it gets really good near the end. The ending is gay by the way, just going to tell you right now. And you should watch through the credits, they have an addition cut-scene that plays, I won’t tell you what it is, but it will probably piss you off.
Didn't see it, but that's probably called a cliffhanger.

Quote:
Have you fought the Keeper yet?
No, last thing that happened...

Spoiler:
Jen got taken away and now Tommy is going after her. Just finished 'the Complex' level and just started 'Ascent'. How far is that off from the ending?

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

The real problem with the whole come back to life system, is that it makes fights which would normally be very intense, and require thinking, and makes them extremely easy. You’re pretty much invincible. I personally think that it would be better if you had some sort of life system, and when you run out of lives, you get a game over. Near the end, there are some fights that are actually a lot of fun, but the whole system just takes away the intensity.
Well you might be true, but I think some battles are too hard without this system. You can take a lot of damage from a single shot.

Quote:
And no, 5 hours even for a FPS is very short.
Yes, it's short, but it's about the quality too. The story of the game is really intense (so far), making the game play pretty nice. Sure, it may not be really creative, but those hours you play at least are fun.

Quote:
And the puzzles do take some time, but they just all feel the same.
Well, yea, revolving around gravity, but with a game that's all based on it I don't think that's strange.

Quote:
As for multiplayer....well....yeah......the multiplayer in the demo had some neat concepts, and I think it would be awesome if there was a map where you could teleport inside a tiny planet in a box like they did in the SP. Where you could fight in there and see people fight on the outside, it would be really cool. I haven't looked at all the maps yet, so who knows.
I didn't check the maps out yet either. I'll get my legal version next week, so I'll try it out when I get it.

btw how do you do that spoiler thing?

Oh and the music rocks, I want to get the soundtrack lol.
I have it. Get it here - http://isohunt.com/dl.php?id=12475540

edit: and it's obvious it rocks, it's composed by Jeremy Soule

I was speaking idiomatically.

Just finished Prey. The last 2 hours of gameplay where certainly the best, since...

Spoiler:
Mother actually does some funky stuff. The whole Keeper-thing was cool though.

I'm dissapointed by the last fight though, I didn't die once. Bit of a shame but great game, great story, great ending. I'm pleased and will be waiting for Prey 2.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?
