I'd like to think I'm in pretty good shape since I fight in MMA events in Hawaii and Utah for the past 8 years. So to be in shape I train to get my strength and endurance the best I can for those brutal 3 rounds. I like to try to get 5 work days and rest on saturdays and sundays so that I'm all fresh and ready to go come monday.
Mondays I like to go through a circuit that usually last 10 or 20 minutes long. Depends on what the circuit is, I'll workout with either kettlebells/sandbags/weight sleds/sledgehammers/flipping tractor tires or going through Tabata intervals. Tuesdays are probably the easiest since I run sprints. Usually 5 long sprints and 5 short sprints. Sometimes I run more, but it depends on the day. Wednesday are strength days. I hit the heavy basics like heavy squats, bench presses, deadlifts, military presses, weighted dips and chinups. It's always a full body workout since I only have 2 strength days in the week. Thrusdays ae GPP days. I hate these days because these days are like Mondays. Long circuits that get you huffing and puffing, and by the end of the workout you're drenched in sweat and your heart is beating like drum. These last 10 - 15 minutes, no more than 20 minutes. Fridays I have my second strength workout. Not as heavy as the first day though, but still a full body workout. Saturdays, when I don't have a fight saturday night I like to go through Strongman exercises. It'll go like throwing beer kegs filled with water or sand. Then flipping the tractor tire across the field next to my house. Then farmer's walk with heavy dumbbells or kettlebells. Then working out with the weight sled. And then I like to finish up by hitting the tractor tire with my sledgehammer for 200 or 300 swings. That's pretty much my entire week. I have muay thai or jiu jitsu classes throughout the week at night so I like to get those workouts finished furing the day. As for nutrition, lots of fresh fruit and vegtables, etc. You know the usual you have to eat right diet. But I like to supplement with Optinum Nutrition 100% whey and Opti men along with fish oil. I found that I feel better when I supplement with those supplements. Geez, just looking at my post makes me tired. haha. Jam it back in, in the dark.
