9.5

The game mostly consists of time spent after school and time spent in Tartarus. Time during school is mainly skipped over. The only major things that happen during the school day itself are having people from social links ask to hang out during lunchtime, having the occasional pop quiz, and exams. The best thing about the school day is how real to life it seems. Players honestly have to pay attention to teacher's speeches or else they'll look like a fool when asked a question in class. Friends--mainly Junpei--will ask for answers when called upon unawares. After school, players can go to a number of locations, though unfortunately exploration in the city is very limited. What players do after school, however, is a large part of how they can improve the main character's stats. Interacting with others through the social link system will improve the power of their Persona, and doing other activities such as studying can improve character's academics, charm, or courage. It is hard to get across how many options there truly are in the game. Players will really have a hard time at many points in the game trying to decide what exactly they want to do, who they want to hang out with, what is most important to them.

-snip snip snip-

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 is a role-playing experience in a realm of its own. Its mature themes, superb production values, awesome battle system, and phenomenal storyline set it in a class of its own. Few RPGs could hope to do what Persona 3 does easily: make the player care about the people in the game.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I wouldn't discredit the review just because it's a site dedicated to RPGs, but a lot of their scores are way off. Children of Mana gets a 7 while Puzzle Quest gets a 4? Definitely not placing much trust in them.
Understandable, but it would probably make more sense to compare the Persona 3 review to others by the same author, not reviews written by someone else, such as the two you list, wouldn't it?
(He has reviewed Odin Sphere (9), Super Robot Taisen (7), Hoshigami Remix (4), Contact (5), Devil Summoner (7), and Shining Force EXA (2)

Holy shit, it's a website dedicated to RPGs giving an RPG game a high score.
IIRC, only 4 games ever have gotten that high of a score or higher in the 'Land, so a 9.5 is kinda up there.
(Xenogears, Lunar 2, Skies of Arcadia, Wind Waker)

In any case, a review is one person's opinion. When someone forum posts that or takes interest in it, they're not saying "Jeff Johnson says this is great, so you will all find it great too!" No media outlet also functions as The Good Taste Bible; a single reviewer's opinion is just that. People should approach reviews with the fact in mind that their own opinion may vary--be it greatly or slightly.

Nevertheless, this is the internet, and before games are released, it's not uncommon to post and compare reviews of it. So here this one is ^_^
He enjoyed pretty much everything about the game, looks like.

Personally, Persona 3 doesn't sound like something I'd have a total blast with, but I do think I'll give it a try some time, maybe after I'm done with Wild ARMs 5 and Growlanser: Heritage of War, whenever that may be.

How ya doing, buddy?
