Based on that hint, I'm gonna guess Battle Arena Toshinden. I remember reading in a review for it that it was the first anime DVD released in the US. It also makes sense considering the blood, which could be from a fight scene (I'm not sure, since I've never seen it before).

I'm gonna take a guess and say that it's from Mezzo. I haven't seen the show, but the character design really seems to resemble what I have seen of its artwork.

Okay, here's my pic:  It should be pretty easy for anyone who has seen the show. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I'm not too familiar with the show, but I think Genshiken has something to do with cosplay, so that would be my guess.
