The Boondocks
Because we need a new thread.
So there are only three new episodes left (if I remember that AS bump correctly) for this season, starting with this Sunday's episode. While that sucks, at least it was a good season overall (even if the last episodes suck, most of the other episodes this season more than make up for it). And we can all take joy in the fact that they are making 20 new episodes to air in the fall. I also wanted to make note that recently Aaron McGruder announced he was taking a six month vacation from the comic strip, which means that it won't run. I wonder if that has anything to do with making the new episodes, as I heard that the quality of the strip went down after he used a replacement last time while he was working on the show. I guess this time he figured he would rather have no strip at all rather than a mediocre one. Jam it back in, in the dark. |

Well, regarding the down to earth part, I think they still try to make it as down to earth as they can, but they still have to try and appeal to a mainstream TV audience, especially that of Adult Swim's nature. Not to make a generalization that most Adult Swim viewers are stupid, but just looking at the other shows that surround The Boondocks lets you see what kind of comedy it features most of the time, which reflects its audience. Basically, each episode still gets its main, down to earth point across, but they add outrageous and sometimes unrealistic situations to flesh out the episodes and sometimes drive the point home even more (just look at the MLK episode, from the beginning it's not true, but presents one of the best messages of the series, and even the store shootout, which seems pretty stupid at first, has a point as a metaphor for the War on Iraq).
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |

And The Boondocks doesn't really talk about American pop culture. If you were to ask me, it talks about American Black culture more than it ever has talked American pop culture. And the first episode wasn't about a country club with one black member, it was just a party at a rich white guy's house. How ya doing, buddy? |

But still, getting back to the overall point, I don't see how having two outspoken characters make both the shows similar. I mean, there are other shows with these types of characters as well, but I wouldn't group them all as being the same, with one just being a "black" (or however else it differs) version of another. Tonight's episode was pretty funny. The best part was when Wuncler went off on Jazmine about her lemonade stand. I couldn't stop laughing, even after it went to commercial.
So it looks like next week is gonna be the last episode for this season. While that sucks, at least I'm comforted by the fact that we're getting twenty new episodes in the fall. At least there'll be other shows to help hold me over (namely new episodes of Robot Chicken). This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |

Yeah, that episode was fucking hilarious. Definitely one of the best this season (and a great way to end this season). It was also good because it had a good mix of drama in there as well, which managed to enhance the comedy (I couldn't stop laughing once that guy went to the governor and said they found out about Raul). Great stuff.
Now we need it on DVD. Uncensored. I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() |

Yes! It's finally been announced:
The Boondocks on (Uncensored) DVD! What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]() |
I looked at wiki, and it says that the song is "I Believe In It" by Isabelle Antena. That song was great, and it really fit the mood of what was happening during those scenes. If you manage to find a copy, post it here.

Thought I'd bump this thread for anyone who cares, since the second season starts tonight in about ten minutes. I barely just saw a commercial for this on Saturday, so it's fair to say there has been hardly any fanfare for the return of, in my opinion, one of their funniest shows.
It's weird that it would come on Mondays as well, since it used to come on Sundays, and that's when most new episodes of their comedies premiere. Oh well, we finally have new eps, so I'm not gonna complain. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |
I thought last night's episode was pretty good. The only part I didn't really like was the fight between Huey and Ruckus. I kinda wish they'd stop going so over the top with the whole action 'psuedo-anime' thing. It's funny in spurts, but the scene from last night's episode was a little too drawn out.
But other than that, it was a great episode. Jasmine's stuff was especially hilarious. This also made me realize how much I've missed this show. I just wish I knew it was coming on sooner, and then I would have rewatched the first season on DVD. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() |
Yeah, he was definitely the best part of an admittedly weak episode. It was good to get some character development on some of the show's lesser characters (mainly Sarah and A Pimp Named Slickback), but overall the episode wasn't really up to standard.
