Never bothered anyone in Melee that Roy and Marth spoke Japanese...
If you want Japanese voice actors, you should purchase a Japanese version of the game. It's completely absurd to get upset at Nintendo using English voice actors for an American version of the game. In fact, it's such a minute part of the game I can't believe anyone is upset over this in the first place. In an effort to make a very complete product, Nintendo did their best to localize each version of the game. But oh no, someone's gotta bitch about something. I, for one, will be playing the game and enjoying it rather than whining about why the characters don't sound like they're from an anime.

How ya doing, buddy?

Never really mattered all that much anyway...

And answering Ultima's question up the page, Yes, voices make a big impact on games. If games plan to add voices, they better be pretty damn good or the gamer might not play the rest of the game since they technically wanna shove shit down your throat.
In many games that's true. In super smash brothers the voicing doesn't go much further than a "hwyaah!" here or there. Apparently you get significantly more engrossed in the role-playing aspect of super smash brothers than I if that is a critical game element.

Christ... I'm 30% through SSE and I've only unlocked Falcon and Marth. I'm definitely missing something here
Nah, he probably unlocked a bunch of characters from playing vs. matches. You can unlock everyone from SSE, but I think the vast majority of them came after 40% for me.

Is it just me, or is the computer better at brawl? It still has ridiculous suicides occasionally, but when I'm fighting a level 9, I definitely feel like I have a lot less room for fucking around. Right now Olimar and Marth seem to be the only characters I can use really competently, but I'm trying to get used to Wario for hilarities sake. Oh and am I the only one who prefers the Wiimote-Nunchuck option? You lose out on no real functionality (there's no smash button, but I never used that in melee anyway) and I find it a lot more comfortable having my hands able to hold the controller in two pieces.

I gave Wifi mode a shot earlier today and I found myself unable to find any opponents. I would sit in the lobby for the 45 seconds, it would go to map selection and I'd sit in a map by myself, awfully exciting. Has anyone had any luck playing online anonymously (ie not with friend codes)?

EDIT: Answered my own question with that last point. Apparently it's not that no one's playing online anonymously, it's that the servers are down because there are too many. That's reassuring.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Level 9s put up a decent fight still, though it didn't seem any harder than Melee.

I think I'm going to restart SSE and do it on normal... It's taking me too long to go through it on hard. I'll just pick up the hard game from where I left off after I do it on normal.
It's definitely possible it's just my imagination as I haven't played all that many matches as completing SSE took up most of my time with the game so far. I've gotta say though, I'm loving this game a lot more than I did melee. I'm an N64 smash fan and this one seems a lot more like a progression from that type of gameplay than melee.

Oh and about SSE, I noticed that the characters which generally gave me the easiest time in SSE were the heavier characters. King Deedee/Wario simply laid waste to everyone in sight. They were also a blast to use; I would just drive back and forth on Wario's motorcycle and let my friend do all the work.

For those of you who've played online, how is it?

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

My friend code is 0001-3014-8140 and I'm named Quazi (naturally). I'd add it to the Wiki, but it says "GO AWAY DEVILGLOBOX" whenever I try to register, so I'm going to go ahead and guess the IP I'm on is banned (Comcast doesn't give out static IPs).

I was speaking idiomatically.

So DN has Toon Link story, losing twice.

Griff has a Jigglypuff story, losing twice.

I have a Wolf story, losing twice.

Mine is more embarrassing since I ended up just getting KOed by him normally... When he had just the same amount of health as I did.

Also, does anyone know if there are extra options in Brawl mode? You know, being able to decide what stages end up on random... Or even just turning Friendly Fire on. It honestly sucks not being able to hit your teammate. T_T
Jigglypuff got me at least 4 times. Almost all (but not quite all) of them was simply the result of absurd unluckiness/stupidity. Wolf's side-B off the edge to my death/dragoon ship death/assist trophies etc. Anyway, I got the bitch eventually.

I unlocked some extra options by playing a bunch of brawls and friendly fire was there. I don't know if you can choose which stages appear in random, but I have to assume it would be included since it was in melee (although I'm not sure how you unlock it).

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Luckily it's not quite instant death in Boss Battles. It's still not a blast to deal with though.

That sounds good then. I would be awfully pissed if Friendly Fire wasn't available...

On another note, I'd spam Brawl matches out, but it's so boring playing alone. I probably won't be able to face any of my friends until the weekend... Tomorrow probably the earliest, but I dunno.

Hopefully they unlocked all the characters... I really don't feel like dragging my Wii around just to play as Wolf.
After you unlock all the stages (just finished), you can choose which ones you want to appear with random select (same place where you find friendly fire).

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

So my one major gripe with playing online right now is that there's absolutely no notification whatsoever when someone adds you. How hard could it be for the game to send you a message "So and so has added your friend code, do you accept?" Right now I've gone through about 19 of the names on the wiki and I've got nothing but "awaiting registration" so it's getting annoying trying to figure out who the few people who've added me are. I didn't buy this game for the online play, but I feel like Nintendo could have done a much better job with it (who knows, maybe they'll have a patch that improves these kind of things).

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Maybe it's because I'm another Comcast user from the East Coast, but I had no real lag issues playing with BigCN (although it woulda been nice to have something to blame for me committing suicide 219 times). Normally when I do the Brawl Anyone option there's a pretty serious delay between me hitting a button and my character actually responding.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I don't think anyones really had any luck with the "with anyone" option
I bat around .300 when I do the play anyone option. If you go ahead and start it up after about a minute either someone will join or you'll be kicked out and you start the awesomeness all over again. It's generally got that half-second lag, but otherwise it works fine.

I'd be interested, but as it stands now I'm not entirely sure how to get my Wii connected to the internet at college. It'll probably involve bringing it in to the IT center to get it's MAC address registered and other annoyances. I'll try to get it done soon, but I'm under a mound of work all of a sudden.

OK, I've managed to get my Wii on the network (was easier than I initially thought), but I want to play a few games on it to gauge how laggy it is. My school isn't very generous with bandwidth.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Hate to tell you, but there are NO continues on the Boss Battles.
On the bright side, that's easier than all-star mode and classic (at least for me). It still looks like a pretty big pain, but exploiting toon link's down A or similar strategies will probably make it a lot less intimidating.

Nonetheless it's still tricky as hell to beat it with everyone. Everyone and their mother knows that some characters have better advantages over these bosses (Lucario [Dair], Lucas [Dair], Toon Link [Dair]...), while others have NOTHING going for them.

This is gonna suck. T_T
You have to beat it on Intense with every character? Well that's bullshit (although it does give extend the lifetime of this game trying to master everyone).

Well apparently my absurdly expensive tuition is not going to a good internet service provider. So far at college I've yet to get better than 5-10fps online and I'm beginning to think it might be me. That and our ~100kbyte/sec bandwidth per student kinda makes it unlikely I'll be online much (at all) anymore. Feel free to delete my friend code.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Call of Duty 4 on Xbox Live is very playable on campus, while my Wii plays at about 5 fps online. It is not simply the fault of routers, but rather horribly inefficient netcode. It's kind of annoying too as no one here is particularly good at the game.

I use the wiimote + nunchuck with a slight variation. I've changed the c-button on the joystick to grab so I don't need to hit two buttons simultaneously at any time. It's just more comfortable to hold two parts of the gamepad separately for me.

One issue I have though, is with the tilt-jump style (where you use the joystick to jump rather than a button) is that it's harder to use moves like your up a in midair without taking a second jump or your tilt a on the ground.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Does online play actually work at a usable level now? As someone who mained Ness, it was nearly impossible to use his up+B to recover when the game reacted nearly a second after all my actions.
