Is it just me, or is the computer better at brawl? It still has ridiculous suicides occasionally, but when I'm fighting a level 9, I definitely feel like I have a lot less room for fucking around. Right now Olimar and Marth seem to be the only characters I can use really competently, but I'm trying to get used to Wario for hilarities sake. Oh and am I the only one who prefers the Wiimote-Nunchuck option? You lose out on no real functionality (there's no smash button, but I never used that in melee anyway) and I find it a lot more comfortable having my hands able to hold the controller in two pieces. I gave Wifi mode a shot earlier today and I found myself unable to find any opponents. I would sit in the lobby for the 45 seconds, it would go to map selection and I'd sit in a map by myself, awfully exciting. Has anyone had any luck playing online anonymously (ie not with friend codes)? EDIT: Answered my own question with that last point. Apparently it's not that no one's playing online anonymously, it's that the servers are down because there are too many. That's reassuring. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() "Oh sirrah" -Hedonism Bot

Oh and about SSE, I noticed that the characters which generally gave me the easiest time in SSE were the heavier characters. King Deedee/Wario simply laid waste to everyone in sight. They were also a blast to use; I would just drive back and forth on Wario's motorcycle and let my friend do all the work. For those of you who've played online, how is it? I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() "Oh sirrah" -Hedonism Bot |
My friend code is 0001-3014-8140 and I'm named Quazi (naturally). I'd add it to the Wiki, but it says "GO AWAY DEVILGLOBOX" whenever I try to register, so I'm going to go ahead and guess the IP I'm on is banned (Comcast doesn't give out static IPs).

I unlocked some extra options by playing a bunch of brawls and friendly fire was there. I don't know if you can choose which stages appear in random, but I have to assume it would be included since it was in melee (although I'm not sure how you unlock it). Luckily it's not quite instant death in Boss Battles. It's still not a blast to deal with though.

So my one major gripe with playing online right now is that there's absolutely no notification whatsoever when someone adds you. How hard could it be for the game to send you a message "So and so has added your friend code, do you accept?" Right now I've gone through about 19 of the names on the wiki and I've got nothing but "awaiting registration" so it's getting annoying trying to figure out who the few people who've added me are. I didn't buy this game for the online play, but I feel like Nintendo could have done a much better job with it (who knows, maybe they'll have a patch that improves these kind of things).

Maybe it's because I'm another Comcast user from the East Coast, but I had no real lag issues playing with BigCN (although it woulda been nice to have something to blame for me committing suicide 219 times). Normally when I do the Brawl Anyone option there's a pretty serious delay between me hitting a button and my character actually responding.

I'd be interested, but as it stands now I'm not entirely sure how to get my Wii connected to the internet at college. It'll probably involve bringing it in to the IT center to get it's MAC address registered and other annoyances. I'll try to get it done soon, but I'm under a mound of work all of a sudden.

OK, I've managed to get my Wii on the network (was easier than I initially thought), but I want to play a few games on it to gauge how laggy it is. My school isn't very generous with bandwidth.

Well apparently my absurdly expensive tuition is not going to a good internet service provider. So far at college I've yet to get better than 5-10fps online and I'm beginning to think it might be me. That and our ~100kbyte/sec bandwidth per student kinda makes it unlikely I'll be online much (at all) anymore. Feel free to delete my friend code.

Call of Duty 4 on Xbox Live is very playable on campus, while my Wii plays at about 5 fps online. It is not simply the fault of routers, but rather horribly inefficient netcode. It's kind of annoying too as no one here is particularly good at the game.

I use the wiimote + nunchuck with a slight variation. I've changed the c-button on the joystick to grab so I don't need to hit two buttons simultaneously at any time. It's just more comfortable to hold two parts of the gamepad separately for me.
One issue I have though, is with the tilt-jump style (where you use the joystick to jump rather than a button) is that it's harder to use moves like your up a in midair without taking a second jump or your tilt a on the ground. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() "Oh sirrah" -Hedonism Bot |
Does online play actually work at a usable level now? As someone who mained Ness, it was nearly impossible to use his up+B to recover when the game reacted nearly a second after all my actions.
