[SotW] Song of the Week - WEEK 229 Voting/WEEK 230 Nominating

I almost feel cheap nominating a Celtic vocal opener because they're becoming generic for me nowadays. However I couldn't go past Boku no Te no Naka no Rakuen Original Sound Track - Papiliones, which is one of Yoh Ohyama's best vocal compositions, and shows his mastery when it comes to melody and arrangement. Kanako Ito's voice is as usual superb, and helps the song flow exceptionally well, including a particularly neat first half that's backed up by some enthusiastic fiddle (of course) and chanting later on. Super!

.hack//Link GAME MUSIC O.S.T. - evbtl08 (Tears of Feelings) is an above-average soaring pop ballad, largely thanks to the beat. The vocals are too airy fairy in parts for me, but on the whole they work well. The strings at the end were awkward, but the piano was a special touch.

Okage: Shadow King (Game Rip) - HigherBreath is hyper and cute which is always a plus, but I walk away from it feeling rather underwhelmed. There isn't a real hook to this one, since there's no catchy melodic line that's stuck with me. But still, I enjoy it. Needs a higher chipmunk dosage though, orion this is clearly not acceptable!

Psycho Soldier Music Cassette - Psycho Soldier is so 1987 for better or for worse...it's appropriately cheesy and is good enough, but I can't give any more praise than that. Probably won't be getting points, but thanks nom this was fun (made me think of this)

I can't not like Pure -AQUAPLUS LEGEND OF ACOUSTICS- - POWDER SNOW given the artists behind it, but I've never really been a fan of the soundtrack to White Album. This arrangement is sweet and cosy, but isn't too special.

MELODRAMA Rumble Roses XX Original Soundtrack - Rising Sun ~Piano Version~ is fairly average and if I had to say one thing ab--MELODRAMA ARGH VOCODER

Yeeeeess! Splashdown: Rides Gone Wild (Game Rip) - Ancient King of Bling amuses me and as such I shall give it a point. Hooray! the instrumentation really is beautiful, and the vocals accentuate this

Akiko Shikata is always good in my books, with Waterway ~Mio~ Ar tonelico II Hymmnos Concert Side Blue - EXEC_over.METHOD_SUBLIMATION/.~lamenza being no exception. Her voice can give even the most mundane composition life, and when the composition is solid it just gracefully enhances it. This is the latter. Other than that electric guitar which I think it terribly out-of-place with the organic focus of the rest of the song..good stuff!
