What's the current transfer mode? DMA or PIO?

Make sure it's set on DMA.

Also, they say that your DVD drive and Hard drive shouldn't share the same IDE cable.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I meant to say that I only heard about that. I've never had to worry about that situation because I have a SATA Hard drive.

But do check what your transfer mode is for the DVD Drive.
This page has pictures on how to check it.

Make sure your secondary IDE channel is set to DMA.
If it already is on DMA, then I'm stumped.

There's nowhere I can't reach.
