Ys The Ark of Napishtim Music Question (PAL Version)
Yesterday I got the PAL version of Ys The Ark of Napishtim (PS2) and browsing through the credits in the gaming manual I noticed something weird. No mention of Falcom Sound Team, instead there´s an obscure "Hawaii Audio Team" (composer names: Lisle Moore, Brady Ellis, Tino Salki, James Guymon, Kurt Bestor, John Hancock, Chuck E. Myers). I know that there was the intention to replace the famous Falcom OST with alternative music for the western release - US fans were protesting against the change and the soundtrack remained untouched.
Now I feel kinda pissed, the music was one of the primary aspects for me buying the game. Unfortunately no european reviewer ever refered to the possible change, there seems to be no information on the internet either. Now I´d like to know if the music of the PAL version really has been altered. I can´t check for myself, because I don´t own a PS2 yet (it should arrive next week). If the game doesn´t feature the original soundtrack (which I mean literally), I´ll have to get rid of it and buy the US version. Maybe there are PAL gamers (or other Falcom fans) who can clear this up? Thanks in advance. Jam it back in, in the dark.

Which OST do you mean? I have the OST done by Falcom, but I can´t listen to the music in the actual game to compare if it´s the same, because I still have no PS2. I tried ripping it on my PC but it looks like extracting Psf2 files is not that easy and requires some skills. And I´ve yet to find an "Arc of Napisthim PAL OST" (which naturally won´t exist anyway).
There's nowhere I can't reach.

Interestingly enough, I never noticed anybody complaining about it. I guess most PAL gamers who bought the game are not familiar with Ys and its music (and those who are most likely imported the game as it became available in the US). I did notice that the music of Napishtim did not recieve too much attention in most German magazine reviews, some even said that it was just average and shallow - which might be an indication for an alternate OST. On the other hand, it´s just a matter of taste and I guess not everyone is a fanatic when it comes to traditional Falcom tunes. Well, I´ll know for sure when I´m able to check it out myself, but it would be cool if anybody could confirm or deny it just now.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I didn´t know that the US version actually had alternative music, so how did you access the genuine soundtrack? Via option menu screen (the manual does not indicate that such an option exists) or through a cheat? Honestly, when it comes to european ports everything is possible, but as you said, scrapping the music option doesn´t make sense at all. Btw. what happened to your Falcom Wiki site? I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

@niki thx for the url
Hmm, so those "new" or "additional" tracks are probably just a bonus and not suitable to replace the original score. I´m just asking myself what´s the deal with "Hawaii Audio Team" and those seven (!) composers listed in the credits. And no mention of Falcom Sound Team after all. Strange. Double Post: Dunno of this indicates anything, but this is what the bgmdef.txt on the DVD looks like: ; id file 0 BGM_STOP 83 New_Cannan3 81 YS6_03 75 YS6_06 67 YS6_07 71 YS6_10 74 YS6_12 66 YS6_13 77 YS6_14 78 YS6_19 41 YS6_ORG01 64 YS6_ORG03 43 YS6_ORG04 65 YS6_ORG05 44 YS6_ORG06 59 YS6_ORG07 45 YS6_ORG08 47 YS6_ORG09 46 YS6_ORG10 48 YS6_ORG11 49 YS6_ORG12 50 YS6_ORG13 51 YS6_ORG14 52 YS6_ORG15 53 YS6_ORG16 70 YS6_ORG17 54 YS6_ORG18 55 YS6_ORG19 60 YS6_ORG20 61 YS6_ORG21 56 YS6_ORG22 62 YS6_ORG23 42 YS6_ORG24 58 YS6_ORG25 68 YS6_ORG28 69 YS6_ORG29 63 YS6_ORG30 Unfortunately no track titles, but maybe somebody could compare it with the file in the US game, if it´s identical I guess chances are good they didn´t change anything. I was speaking idiomatically.

Darn, my PS2 still hasn´t arrived yet. I decided to have it modded, so I didn´t just buy it in a shop on the street. I hope I´ll have it until friday at least.
Slightly off-topic but similar aspect: What exactly is the soundtrack of Guilty Gear XX #Reload? Since there appears to be no OST (apart from the alternate Korean version) I assume it´s identical to Guilty Gear XX (which isn´t a bad thing to me, I love it), am I right? Most amazing jew boots
