I'm not sure if this'll help #2 but give it a try. Go to Options (right clicking winamp) - Preferences, and File Types. Maybe disabling Winamp Agent? Or modify some of the settings. Sorry if this isn't really any help. >.>
And for the first problem, perhaps a malfunctioning plugin is interfering? You can disable them via the Options. And have you tried the obvious - reinstalling it. gl. Jam it back in, in the dark.
