System Shock 2. Period. Like Deus Ex, this game totally blew me away. I'd say it's almost a tie between the two, but System Shock 2 wins because of it's incredible atmosphere, a blend of horror, cybernetics, sci-fi and the entire RPG element just makes it a winner. Furthermore, the music is stunning, the storyline and the way it's conveyed through audio logs is just top-notch.
Now, I'm a huge horror fan in general and the game has an eerie effect of being able to scare the living fuck out of you - nearly forcing you to just quit altogether and I was there a few times, but I always came back for more and pushed on. When you find a game that's able to give you both of those - fear and lust for more fear, you know it's perfect.
Another thing worth mentioning is the multiplayer feature. Coop with 4 players in a stranded intergalactic cruiser that has been overrun by aliens and an AI gone rogue. Just face it, it doesn't get better than that.
Jam it back in, in the dark.
