If you are using AVG free, don't rely on it. Compared to retail virus scanners AVG has subpar detection. Get yourself nod32 or kaspersky full updated and then try. also scan your program installers,they are most likely the culprit unless you visited any exotic sites =P)
As for firefox, first try cleaning ALL your private data, cookies, saved pass, etc. Then I would try reinstalling it completely, those are fast fixes (if they work) Also, this is a long shot, but make sure your google bar is actually searching google and not some crap intimidation. Jam it back in, in the dark.
